$5 or Less Pantry Challenge: June 11, 2016

We had a church fellowship in another town this morning and after it was over I popped in at the town's local JoAnn's Fabric store.  We don't have one near us so when I am where there is one, I try to stop in for a visit.

Look what I found ....

... for $1 each!

I was so excited!

I use a lot of thread and it seems that white is the one color I always run low on, but finding this sale enabled me to add to that area of my pantry.

What have you added to your pantry for $5 or less this week?

  1. I went over by .40 cents, but I got 6 large bell peppers and three 1 lb. bags of Lima beans for 60. cents each.

  2. That was an awesome find Patsi! You go girl! I added 2 pounds of dried beans, 2 boxes of jello a pack of hot dog buns and a box of mac n cheese. I try to add something to the pantry every week even if it's just a sample of something. Every little bit adds up!

    1. Vicky, yes, every little bit does add up. I too, am making a concentrated effort to add something to my pantry every week ... even if it is something small!

  3. Nice find, Patsy! I know what you mean about running out of white thread...all to common of a problem for sewers.

This week there were cases of bottled water on sale $0.97/15 bottles, so I bought 4 cases for under $4 total. I like to have bottled water stored for emergencies. We also use them for day trips or to offer guests when they come to our house, which ensures the bottled water gets rotated on a regular basis.

    1. Rhonda, that is a good deal on the water! We buy bottled water as well and are always looking for a good deal on it.

  5. Dear Patsy,
That is a steal! You probably already know this, but JoAnn's takes competitors' coupons (Michael's Crafts and Hancock Fabrics), as well. Extra savings!
We are getting ready for a move, so I have not added anything to the pantry, but I am ready to start building it up again! Hopefully that will be soon. Oh, wait! If you count the gift cupboard as part of the pantry, I added four medium sized baskets with fabric liners for five dollars. They were on clearance, and I was very happy about that!
    With love, Kelsey

  6. Well done Patsy. I picked up a three pack of white overlocker thread this week. With a 40% off discount they came in at just under $5. Very happy to have these in my craft pantry as I was getting quite low.

  7. Great find....and Coats brand as well.

I didn't add to my pantry this week or last. I'm in the process of repainting the inside of the house and currently the kitchen. I thought it would be a good idea to reorganize the adjoining pantry (closet) and make sure things are rotated, used and in the right amount. Of course, they are not!

Not that I'm not spending money this week at all......replacing a 25 year old furnace and air conditioner. Found a young man that does this on the side, so I am saving a bit of cash that way. Do the units work...yes. Do I cross my fingers when I turn on the AC each time....absolutely!!! lol. I have options for back up heating, but I have all casement windows (crank outs) and no easy way to install a window unit easily.

  8. I added 4 packs of olives with pits. They are the rich Greek kind and they come in shrink wrap for $1.38 for 8 oz. Great price for these.
