Pantry Challenge #23 ... 2016, The Vicky Challenge and other thrifty things we did this week!

Yesterday we were privileged to get to go with a group from church to visit the USS North Carolina Battleship.  The ship has been retired for several years and is now a tourist attraction … it is a massive ship!  Scattered throughout this post I’ll be sharing pictures that I snapped.  I hope you enjoy them!

Note:  My Vicky Challenge Savings are added in at the appropriate places.

My to-do list from last time:

Start harvesting zucchini … yes ma’am, we had the first fresh from the plant zucchini this week!  (7 zucchini @ $.59 each)  Saved $4.13
Finish harvesting spring onions … Didn’t get done!
Continue harvesting cucumbers ($.49 each)  Done!  I harvested 7 more cucumbers this past week. Saved $3.43
Plant a third planting of cucumbers.  Done!
Work out our ‘row’ garden. Didn’t get done!

Read and glean from this book, The Preppers Water Survival Guide:  Harvest, Treat and Store Your Most Vital Resource by Daisy Luther … This didn’t get done either!  (To see what else I’ve been reading this year, go HERE!)

In Addition:
I harvested our garlic.  I’ve left it to cure on the front porch for a few days, then I’ll bring it in and either use it or braid and hang it for future use.  Saved:  $36  (I estimate that I will have 3 braids of garlic once they are braided and the last time I purchased a braid of garlic I paid $12 for it.)

I made up a gallon of Miracle Spray for household cleaning purposes using ingredients I had on hand.  Saved $30.

Added compost material to compost bin.

Harvested raspberries and gave them to a neighbor.

Was given yellow squash fresh from a friend’s garden.  Saved: $3.00

I froze 24 more raspberry syrup cubes.  Saved:  $8

Started harvesting peaches from our peach trees.  Yum, they are good!

Got an order for 3 cakes (butter pound cake, carrot cake and 16 layer chocolate cake).  Charged $75 for the 3 cakes minus $5.68 for ingredients I didn’t have on hand … earned $69.32.

Saved $70.99 using coupons, shopping sales and loss leaders.

Chickens laid 2 dozen eggs this week:  Saved $6

Watched these free sewing shows on Youtube.

Yard work/gardening/landscaping (does not include mowing) (2 hours x $10 per hour for labor):  Saved $20

Thus far this year my Vicky Challenge savings/earnings have been $7,467.73, add this week’s amount ($250.87) and I/we have saved $7,718.60.  I'm really enjoying seeing how much I/we save/earn through being frugal!

Here are some things I want to get done in the upcoming week:

We've got VBS this week so I'm not setting any specific goals for my pantry.

Now it’s your turn, what have you done to build up your pantry, live frugally or save this week?
