The Ways of My Household ... 11/27/2016

Before we get started on this post I want to thank Patricia M. for her generous donation and her encouraging words. It is so good to know the things that I write are encouraging and helping others. Thank you again Patricia M. for the monetary donation and the encouragement!

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving holiday ... now it’s time to move on to Christmas!!!!

Let’s see how the ‘Ways of My Household’ went this week …

Note:  My Vicky Challenge Savings are added in at the appropriate places.

We enjoyed a quiet Thanksgiving at home with just the two of us.  It was what we needed as we’ve had our plates really full the past few months.

My husband has been doing some work on our hearth this week which required him to put on his brick layer hat.  By doing the work himself he saved us $360.

Today is my husband's birthday so I baked him a birthday cake instead of buying one … savings:  $25

I hope you’re following along on our ‘Countdown to Christmas series.  I’m really enjoying sharing what we’re doing each day to get the most out of the season.

We saved $241.00 using coupons and shopping sales for food and non-food pantry items.

I’m on day 63 of my 100 Day Crochet Challenge.   I finished this summer swaddling blanket.   Remember from this post how I wasn’t pleased with how it was turning out and had ripped it all out?  I changed the color of the thread and went to a thicker thread as well.  I love how it’s turned out!  I think a little white grub rose in one corner will be all it needs … other than a good ironing/pressing! This will go in my gift trunk as a gift … savings $25.  (I had a reader ask if I just cut out a piece of muslin baby blanket size, hemmed it and then edged it ... here's my answer ... that would be the way I would do it, I would cut the muslin and then just do a quarter inch hem all the way around but the one I used this time was pre-cut and hemmed.  They came in a package of 4 ... and they are called kitchen dishtowels.  Yep!  I purchased these muslin kitchen towels several years ago and hadn't used them. They are the perfect size for a swaddling blanket!!!  Sometimes you just have to think outside the box!!!)  Let’s see, what shall I crochet next ….

Not working outside my home … Saved $100

Thus far this year my Vicky Challenge Savings  savings/earnings have been $14,898.52 add this week’s amount ($751) and I/we have saved $15,649.52.

Now it’s your turn, what have you done to build up your pantry, care for your household or live frugally this week?

A Working Pantry is more than just about food! It's about household items needed to keep my home running smoothly readily available when needed.  It's about keeping a gift trunk so that I'm ready for any gift giving occasion.  It's about a lifestyle.  It's about keeping my home and looking well to the ways of my household and it's about doing it all as frugally as possible.  I hope you enjoy what you read here.

Countdown to Christmas: 11/27/16

I don't do a lot on Sundays as it is filled with church and church related activities most of the day, however I did sneak in a few Christmas things today ...

We listened to Christmas music on the way to and from church ...

We enjoyed seeing the decorated houses and yards on the way to and from church tonight ...

I lit one of our favorite Yankee Candle, candles ... Christmas Cookie ... and enjoyed it's fragrance...

I put the finishing touches on these coasters that I started right before Hurricane Matthew hit ...

(They are made of 3 layers of flannel stitched together with the edges clipped.  Then it was into the washer for a good washing and then into the dryer for a good drying.  Being in the dryer is what made the edges curl. There are 8 all together. They were really simple to make.)

What did you do toward your journey to Christmas today?
