Our Journey to a Mortgage Free Home ... #15

(You can read previous entries in this series HERE.)

In the last entry I shared our 'official pantry' room.  Many of you were surprised that I don't have a huge pantry room ... I don't and it is entirely possible to have a well-stocked pantry without one!  In this entry I'm going to show you a small closet ... turned pantry!

Do you see the little inset the man in the plaid shirt is working in?  That's a small closet ... approximately 2.5 feet x 2.5 feet.

Here's the latest picture I have of it now!

Next week, we start on the hearth!

Until next time,

  1. Patsy that just shows what you can do with a small space. I just have a cupboard for a pantry but it is not as well stocked as yours.

    1. Selina, we work with what we've got and just do the best we can. No sense wasting away time wishing for something we don't have!

  3. Where do you store all of your bands for your jars? I noticed you have them all off. I am always torn if I want to leave them on loosely or store separate. I just haven't found the space to store separately.

    1. I keep a working supply (around 30) in a dishpan in my kitchen ... and that dishpan is nested inside of a larger dishpan which is also nested inside another larger dishpan which sits on top of my washing machine. When I get ready to use my washing machine I just move the dispans to a different location until I'm through with laundry. I have a larger supply in a tub stored in an outside building.

  4. I just keep my bands in a cardboard box. At my old house, it was in the garage, here it is in the shop, which is a few steps from the house. When canning season comes, I may bring in a working supply, that makes sense. I'm still in the figuring out stage in this new house. When we moved, my mom and aunt sorted out all the rusty ones, bad ones, etc. and now I just have a reasonable supply of nice ones. One warning--I bought some new ones from Walmart and they just blow off in the canner--not good--so I hope I was clear and had them throw all those away, even though they look shiny. I'll never get those again!

    1. Becky, thank you for the tip on the rings you purchased at Walmart. I haven't purchased any in a really long time and shouldn't have to for a very, very, very long time, but maybe this info will help others.

  5. I love all those lovely jars lined up. It shows an amazing amount of effort on your part. Given you have just gone through a natural disaster your stores would have been depleted, yet you still have plenty on hand. Your pantry is wonderful. I am hoping we will change over from an electric to a gas(propane) water heater soon. This will give me a whole cupboard that I can start to use as a store cupboard. I love this series and we are slowly building a picture of your home with the teasing little snippets you give us.

    1. Jane, it's amazing the things we can find to use as part of our pantry when we put our mind to it isn't it? Your future cupboard is just one example! Thank you for your kind words regarding our house series. It has certainly been a journey in commitment and patience!!!!
