My 100 Day Sewing Challenge #9

I continued to work on this blanket this week.  I actually got in 3 different days for at least 15 minutes of sewing/crocheting each day.

This puts me at having completed 21 of the 100 days needed to complete this challenge!

I'm really enjoying this challenge and if you're doing your own challenge, I hope you are finding this method enjoyable too.

I also learned how to crochet hot pads, thanks to the patience and effort of a dear friend!

What about you, what did you get stitched up this week?

The Ways of My Household ... 8/28/2017

I’m still out of what is my ‘normal routine’ and I’m still adding to my pantry!

Last week I told you how I had gone to JoAnn’s Fabric armed with my 60% off coupon but was unable to use it because of the restrictions.  This week I was in an area where there was a JoAnn’s so I checked for coupons and found one I could use for something I needed.  I walked out of the store having purchased vinyl for Cricut machines (I’ll use it with my Sizzix cutter machine instead) for $12.99.   Regular price was $12.99 each and I had a BOGOF coupon so I got two for the price of one.  Each package had multiple colors in it so this will last me quite a while.  I’m already envisioning the different gifts I will dress up with cut out’s made from this vinyl and I’ll use some of it to label my gallon pickle jar canisters!

We’ve had to do quite a bit of eating out this week so we made a point of asking if there were any discounts or coupons available when we went into a restaurant.  A few times it paid off, other times we drank water instead of cola or tea to keep the cost down and we chose lesser expensive meals.

I purchased a bottle of Manuka honey  through Amazon using affiliate money I had been earning and saving.  Thank you to all who shop Amazon through my links.  I earn a small amount when you make a purchase that doesn't cost you anything.  I really appreciate your support in this way, it helps me be able to add things to my pantry that I wouldn't otherwise be able to ... such as Manuka honey.

I was able to do some thrift store shopping this week and found a couple of things on my list ...  this twin sheet which I'll turn into pillowcases for the pillows on our bed. (The color scheme is perfect!) and this Beatrix Potter children's book. Thanks to the help of a friend who went thrifting with us, I was able to mark this item off my list.  I want the book for the illustrations which I'll use to make cards and gift tags for children.

Another good deal we came across this week was #10 size cans of mushroom pieces and stems on clearance for $3.31 each at Sam's Club. I purchased two and plan to drain the liquid and dehydrate the mushroom pieces.  I'll take the liquid and freeze it in ice cube trays and add them to the freezer part of my pantry. I'll use them for seasoning purpurses or for adding to soups and stews.

On my shopping list for a while has been electrolyte powder and this week I found it in individiual packets at Sam's Club on sale for $3.50 off the regular price.  I added one to the medicinal part of my pantry.

That's it for me this week, what about you?  What have you done to build up your pantry or live frugally this week?

While watching the eclipse on Monday (we had 99.6% totality), along with lots of other people, some in the group broke out singing "How Great Thou Art." I got goose bumps and teared up a bit over what we were experiencing and the awesomeness of our God. It was an amazing experience!

My 100 Day Sewing Challenge #8

I almost didn't get any sewing of any kind done this week but at the last minute I grabbed my crocheting and got to work.

The end results ...

I can say that I got to sew (in this case crocheted) for at least 15 minutes ONE day this week!  Hey! It counts!!!!

Want to see what I worked on ...

Here you go ...

I have now completed 18 out of the 100 days in my 100 Day Sewing Challenge!

What about you, what did you get stitched up this week?

The Ways of My Household 8/21/2017

This has been one of those 'out of my normal routine' kind of weeks but that didn't stop me from acting on my 'pantry mindedness!'

Yes, I have 'pantry mindedness!'

While doing my pantry inventory a couple of weeks ago, I found some applesauce that was getting close to ‘the need to be used date’ so I turned it into fruit roll ups using my dehydrator.  I then froze and added them to the freezer part of my pantry.  These will make a good snack for the twins when they come to visit.  Waste not, want not!

You've 'heard' me mention the headlamps I used during the power outages of  Hurricane Matthew and about how handy they were.  My husband found this one on clearance at Home Dept for $7 and snatched it up.   He did good!!!!

Annabel from The BlueBirds are Nesting inspired me to fine tune my thrift store shopping preparedness in a topic she did for me in my private WP group.  I have an ongoing list of things I look for when I have the opportunity to go thrift shopping that I keep on my phone but now, as a back-up, I also have it written down in a small spiral notebook that fits inside my purse.  One of the other things she mentioned was always having a tape measure with you when thrift shopping.  That way you will be able to measure to see if an object will fit where you need it to before buying … and of course you will have the dimensions written down on your thrift store list. I’m housing my notebook and small tape measure in my purse.  A girl’s got to be prepared; you just never know when a thrift store shopping stop might present itself!

I had a 60% off coupon for JoAnn's but all the things I had on my list were on sale. The coupon wouldn't work on sale items and the sales were really not that good so .... I walked out of the store not having time spent one cent!

That's it for me, like I said it's been an 'I'm out of my normal routine' kind of week!

What have you done to live frugally or build up your pantry this week?

Presentation! Presentation!  Presentation!

How you dress a gift can make all the difference ...

These pillows are packaged in a cheap trash bag with the top tied together using curling ribbon.  How simple and how pretty ... (or at least I think so!).

The receipients of these gifts will be able to see just enough to peak their curosity!

My 100 Day Sewing Challenge #7

I did better this week, instead of getting to sew 1 day (as I did last week), I got to sew for 2 days for at least 15 minutes each day!!!

This puts me at having completed 17 of the 100 days of the challenge!

Want to see what I worked on ... good, because I want to show you ...

I stitched up these pillowcases for 2 very special little people in our lives ...

Since their mommy and daddy recently purchased them new sheets and pillowcases, I decided to purchase new pillows for these pillowcases so they could use them as 'extras' or even 'play pillows.'

What about you, what did you get stitched up this week?

The Ways of My Household 8/14/2017

We've had a rainy, humid and hot week weather wise which meant not much outside work was done.  We had plenty of things that kept us busy though!  Here's what our week looked like pantry and savings wise ...

I made this low-carb granola.  The only thing I did different was I left out the stevia extract and used ¼ cup Gentle Sweet instead of Swerve.  It was plenty sweet.  I really like this so it’s going in my collection of low-carb recipes.  (I used a coffee/herb grinder to grind up the nuts.)

I earned a $10 Amazon gift card through Swagbucks.

We found Skippy Natural Peanut Butter on clearance, 2 (40 oz jars) pack for $5.91. We were glad to find this as peanut butter was something we were getting low on.

We also found 5 lbs of Red Mill gluten free flour on clearance for $.91.  We added a couple of bags of that to our pantry as well.

We found cherries on sale for $3.49 for a 3 lb container.  This made them a little over $1/lb which is a very good price!  I had intentions of  de-seeding and freezing them to go in the freezer for smoothies … but that didn’t happen!   They sure are tasty!

I finished reading Harvest of Blessings by Charlotte Hubbard and started reading The Christmas Cradle also by Charlotte Hubbard.   Both books came from the library!

The horn went out on our vehicle.  My husband purchased the needed part and repaired it himself.  This saved us quite a bit!

I read on Harvest Lane Cottage about how Laura treated a cut on her finger that had gotten infected, using colloidal silver and bentonite clay.  This goes along with the research I've done on both of these, so I've added it to my herbal/home remedies.

We continued to do our normal savings things, feed the compost bin and cook from scratch.

That’s it for me this week, what did you do to build up your pantry or live frugally?

My 100 Day Sewing Challenge #6

Oh my, did I ever have to scramble to get in even one day of at least 15 minutes of sewing this week!

But, I did it!!!

I have now done 16 of my 100 days of sewing!!!

Here's what I did ...

I stitched up the second pouch that I had cut out, I sure am glad they don't take long to sew up!

The Ways of My Household 8/7/2017

We found fresh green peanuts on sale for $6.99 a ¼ bushel bag. (Regular price $9.99/bag.) My husband loves home-canned ‘boiled’ peanuts so we purchased 4 bags and I canned them.

We were given several fresh catfish.  My husband worked and worked to get them all cleaned and processed.  We wound up with about 30 pounds of meat after they were cleaned and dressed.  We divided it all into meal size portions and added them to the freezer part of our pantry.

I harvested the last of the elderberries.

Eye exams and new glasses were on tap for both my husband and I this week.  We do not have vision insurance so we told the eye doctor up front that we were not interested in a lot of bells and whistles but wanted something that would meet our needs economically.   He was very helpful and didn’t waste our time or his showing us things that were not in our price range. Sometimes in hunting for the best deal you just need to be up front and honest.  It paid off for us this time as we both got new glasses at a price we could manage.

I did a one day pantry inventorying and re-organizing marathon. I put like things together again so that I can tell how much I have of each item at a glance.  (No matter how hard I try to keep things organized in my pantry it still needs a good over all re-organizing on a regular basis.) Now, I can tell what I'm getting low on at a glance.   The picture is of one area of my pantry.

I had a JoAnn's Fabric coupon for 60% off any regular priced item. I've had my eye on a Ponte Roma knit fabric that was $14.99/yd for a while. You know what I did? We needed to be in the town where there is a JoAnn's and so I stopped in armed with my 60% off coupon and another 50% off coupon and I took my husband in with me thinking he could use another 50% off coupon from his phone. I found the fabric and got cut what I needed for 3 different pieces (I asked to make sure it was not on sale before the first cut was made, otherwise the coupons would not have worked.). I think I was blessed to get one of the nicest cashiers I have ever gotten at JoAnn's. We (she and I) were like kids trying to figure out the best ways to use my coupons. The end results ... I walked out with $125.62 worth of fabric for $56.66 and that included one pattern. Blessed indeed!

I finished reading A Mother’s Love by Charlotte Hubbard and started reading Harvest of Blessings also by Charlotte Hubbard.   I’m really enjoying this new to me Amish fiction writer and am glad that our local library has been able to get these books in for me.

We continued to do our normal saving things, feed the compost bin and cook from scratch.

That’s it for me this week, what did you do to build up your pantry or live frugally?

Do you see these little things?

Do you know what they are?

They're the little white plastic things that close the end on bags of produce and some breads.

Thanks to a recent tip from a friend, I'll be using them to mark rows while working on crocheting projects.  How about that!!!!

What would you use them for?

My 100 Day Sewing Challenge #5

I stitched 4 days this week for at least 15 minutes each day!

That puts me at day 15!!!!

Here's what I did ...

Finished the edging on this pillow case ...  (this picture doesn't do it justice!)  I have one more to do!  These are for me, by the way!

Crocheted another face cloth while riding in the vehicle ... this will go in my gift trunk along with the others I've done.  This is the yarn I used.

And stitched up this pouch!  (Here again, the picture doesn't do this justice!)  These pouches are for me as well. I'll use them to organize things in my purse.

What about you, what did you get stitched up this week?
