Welcome to A Working Pantry!
Whether you're new to A Working Pantry or just want to know a little about the author of this blog, this is the place to start.
My grandmother was a preserver, my mother was a preserver and I am a preserver. (Actually I am more than a preserver. I don't just preserve our food, I also hunt down bargains, barter, swap and glean in order to keep my pantry well-stocked.)
I grew up in a household where we grew huge gardens every year and canned, froze and raised most all of our food. I remember as a child eating in season from the garden and working long hours preserving food for the winter months that would last until it was time for gardening season again.
I remember milking cows, making butter and gathering eggs.
I remember butchering days too, chickens, rabbits, turkeys, pigs, cows, this was how we got our meats.
That was how my parents kept our family fed then and with some exceptions is how we keep our family fed today.
Over time I learned that knowing how to build and keep a well-stocked pantry was a skill others wanted to learn so I decided it was time to start passing on those skills.
Although the main focus of A Working Pantry is building, using and maintaining a well-stocked pantry, I also write about frugality, homekeeping, my faith in God and other similar topics.
