Countdown to Christmas ... 12/15/2016

Picture this ...

We have a fire in the woodstove, it's really cold outside (our temps are supposed to go down into the teens tonight)  but we're warm and toasty inside and even have the front door of the house open.  The lights are out in the house and the Christmas tree is all lite up ... I love this! This screams Christmas to me!

And if that wasn't enough ....

I received a package from Annabel over at The Bluebirds are Nesting in the mail today.  Just look at those cute little crochet pins!!!!  I squilled with delight over those!  And aren't those stickers just perfect for this time of the year???

That leaves the wrapped package ... there was no note or anything that said 'wait until Christmas' like last year (it was unbelievably hard to wait last year, but I did) so ... what do you think?  Can I go ahead and open it?????

(Thank you Annabel, I love your gifts!)

But wait, I'm not through ...

I got a notice from paypal today that I had received a generous donation from Brush Creek Quilt Company!  I squilled again!  Oh my, what a day filled with Christmas cheer for ME!!!!!  Thank you Brush Creek Quilt Company, my Christmas joy is overflowing!

I've been working pretty hard today putting the finishing touches on our church's ladies Christmas party tomorrow night here at my house, so a nice quiet cozy comfortable evening like I described above is perfect for helping me rest and relax.   Can I just say it again ... these kind of evenings just scream Christmas to me!

What kind of Christmas cheer day did you have?

A Working Pantry is more than just about food! It's about household items needed to keep my home running smoothly readily available when needed.  It's about keeping a gift trunk so that I'm ready for any gift giving occasion.  It's about a lifestyle.  It's about keeping my home and looking well to the ways of my household and it's about doing it all as frugally as possible.  I hope you enjoy what you read here.

  1. My husband and I went out for a rare weekday breakfast out and were seated on front of the fireplace. It was a wonderful, cozy time together.

    1. Lana, that sounds like Cracker Barrel. I love to be seated near their fireplace in the winter!

    2. I was thinking the same thing....nothing like a Cracker Barrel meal in front of the fire!

  2. Hi,I
I am new at A Working Pantry. I really enjoy your blog. In north Idaho we had -4 degrees last night so our wood stove has trouble keeping our house warm. Snow says Christmas to me and we have snow now. I am looking forward to Bible study then a lunch with soups from recipes from different countries.

Loved the crochet pins from The Bluebirds are Nesting. Have a great day.

    1. MaryLee, welcome to the Working Pantry family! -4 degrees ... brrrrr, that's cold! Snow says Christmas to me as well, but snow is a very rare thing for the area we live in! I hope you enjoyed your Bible study and your lunch ... soups from recipes from different countries sounds like it would be fun!

  3. Just wanted to let you and your readers know that my Aldi had a special on their butt hams on the bone $5 off every one. I looked for the smallest ones I could find and got 3. Total cost was 36cents a pound. I will cook one this weekend and the other 2 are already in the freezer. We needed other kinds of meat. I got a great deal last moth on discount sausage and plenty of chicken. Ham will make a great edition. I see lots of omelets in our future.
On to my Christmas activities. I have been wrapping whenever I get a chance. Last night was my youngest daughter's school concert. She did great. Tonight is my son's. So plenty of Christmas music. I picked up Pentatonix That's Christmas to me cd from the library. They do an amazing version of "Mary did you know" which is my favorite Christmas song. I'm drinking hot chocolate with whipped cream out of a Christmas mug as I type this. Just enjoying all of our decorations and other people's lights as we are out and about. My oldest daughter is flying home Sunday night so Christmas will really start then. She will be home for 10 days which is all I really wanted for Christmas. We are planning lots of fun things when she is home. Making lots of cookies and we do a fake gingerbread house. None of us like gingerbread. We will go out looking at all the beautiful lights. Visiting with lots of friends and family. We like to play games and cards so lots of that. My sister is treating us all to Mary Poppins Live. It will be busy but so much fun. I am only working 3 days while she is home. So its kind a vacation for me too.

    1. Marybeth, I am so glad your daughter is getting to come home for Christmas! The journey to Christmas can be as much fun as Christmas itself ... all those simple little things that bring us joy ... sipping hot chocolate with whipped cream out of a Christmas mug ... that is just so 'Christmasy!!!" Enjoy your time with your family!

  4. I spent the morning at my daughter's school. Another mom and I made pancakes to order (plain, blueberry or chocolate chip) and served breakfast to the class. Joined the children for chapel and heard the Christmas story along with some carols sung by each class (preK-3 -6th grade). Sweet! Then I watched the class (5th & 6th graders) enjoy a gift exchange. A fun, fun morning that certainly gave me the Christmas spirit!

    1. Wendi, pancakes to order ... oh,my ... that is a Christmas gift in and of itself! What a great thing for you all to do!

  5. That was so sweet of Annabel it is so hard to wait sometimes! LOL I am so happy that your using your wood stove the cozy heat is so nice that sometimes I have a hard time leaving my house. I hope you get a lot of blessings this Christmas you deserve every one of them!

    1. Thank you Vicky! The heat from our wood stove does indeed make the house cozy and warm and comforting!

  6. Patsi-
I say go for it! Open away and let us know what you got!

Have a wonderful time tomorrow! I know it will be a rousing success!

    1. Jenn, I did ... after getting Annabel's permission! I'll be sharing the contents soon!
