Hurricane Florence: Entry #16

We loaded up disaster relief supplies today and went to one of the hardest hit areas as far as flooding goes in Kelly, NC.  We drove for an hour, set up and the people came and they came and they came and they came.  They were so thankful and appreciative!

(This picture was taken today in the area where we were.)

The weather was hot and humid and it rained two different times.  We would cover everything up and then uncover everything and the people would come again.  We had to do the covering up and uncovering thing 2 different times.  We were wet with rain and wet with sweat.  I even got a bit too much sun and got sun-burned!  Weather-wise it was an uncomfortable day but distribution wise, it was one of the best because of the people we served.

(disaster relief supplies)

We gave away gallons of milk, ground beef, whole chickens, smoked sausage, bacon, canned foods, personal hygiene items, feminine products, diapers, snack foods, paper towels, cleaning supplies, bleach, water, toilet paper, hand sanitizer, rubbing alcohol, apples, oranges, clementine's, peanut butter, jelly, granola bars, food boxes and more.  All compliments of Hartsville Pike Church of Christ in Gallatin, TN, Reidland Church of Christ in Paducah, Ky and Churches of Christ Disaster Relief in Nashville, TN.

(More supplies … meat and milk are in the coolers.)

They couldn't believe we had milk as there was none in the stores anywhere close.  It was our most popular item along with meat.

(We gave out 50 gallons of milk!)

We are exhausted and my shower really felt good tonight, I can't remember when I have sweated so much!

(We had disaster relief supplies everywhere! We had 3 vehicles and a trailer full of supplies.)

It was such a satisfying day though to see such needs and be enabled to help meet them.  If you have helped these disaster relief efforts in any way, and several have, we thank you from the bottoms of our hearts!  So many people today just kept saying thank you over and over again!

(meat)

We will be moving to a different hard hit location later in the week and doing a repeat of today!  Please pray for our efforts, our safety and for protection from all mosquito born diseases as the mosquitoes are merciless!

(more meat … we purchased dried ice for each cooler and everything stayed nice and cold!)

We were part of a team of 4 that worked this give-a-way today, thank you to the other two team members.  It would have been so much harder without your help!

(We received another donation today, thank you so very much and may God richly bless you for your generosity!)

That's all I have for today!

  2. Patsi, how appreciative those hard hit people must be to receive those supplies and to see that there are people who really care for them must give them a boost.
