Adding to My Pantry with a $10 Gift Card

I recently earned a $10 gift card from Swagbucks for a large grocery store chain.  I knew I wanted to use it to add to my pantry so I took a few days to think about how best to turn it into several meal making ingredients.

Here is what I decided on …

9 cans diced tomatoes with green chilies @ $.40 each
9 cans dark red kidney beans (some with salt and some without salt) @ $.50 each
2 cans mixed vegetables @ $.54 each
Total for all was $9.18 plus tax

I'll use the diced tomatoes with green chilies in frittatas, casseroles, soups, meat loaf, etc.
I'll use the dark red kidney beans in chili, soups, etc
I'll use the mixed vegetables in casseroles, pot pies, soups, etc

I'm very pleased with what I was able to add to my pantry for a $10 gift card … that didn't cost me anything!

Free food for my pantry, I'll take it!!!

  1. That is a very good way to use a gift card and add to your pantry. Smart woman, when I grow up I want to be just like you. Okay I realize I am older than you but just saying......

  2. Way to go Patsy on filling up your pantry using a free gift card and all of those tins of food will come in handy too :).

We will be moving into our new home on Tuesday the 11th of December and will have far more room for food storage :) having a room that will be 5.5 x 3.5 m in size dedicated solely for food storage. Also there is a wooden meat shed with ventilation which is also going to be used for storing grains in being approx 4 x 4 m in size too. Doing happy dances :).

We picked up our monthly grocery order on the 30th of November and saved $125.60 in total. For our pantry stock up we took advantage of $75.60 worth of half price specials, coupled that with $10 worth of free groceries with our supermarket rewards points and $40 off using our usual supermarket e-voucher discount.

For the pantry we purchased -
    - 8 x 1kg powdered full cream milk powder.
    - 10 x 375 g of cocoa powder.
    - 6 x philadephia cream cheese on half price special.
    - 1 x bottle of sarsparilla for Christmas celebrations.

We also took advantage of a $10 off any amount purchase voucher and for the medical/first aid house and travel kit I purchased for free-
    - 5 x knee supports.
    - 2 x ankle supports.
    - 2 x elbow/wrist supports

I did pay for one additional knee brace of $1.32 with the order.

Chuffed with this months achievement and only spent $1.32 out of our $80 pantry budget this month to date.

    Have a great week :).

  4. You sure did make that $10 go a long ways!

Right now I am trying to be mindful of how much I have on hand and knowing that we will have to move it all as soon as we find our downsize house. I did add 4 cans of chili beans for 24 cents a can last week but those will get used up quickly in chili.

    1. Lana, $.24/can is a really good price! I was happy to find them for $.50/can! Are you actively looking for a smaller house or is it one of those things if the right one comes along, you'll go for it?

    2. We are actively looking. It is such a huge drain on our time bib we really need to get put of this big house. We have handed it over to God to show us which house and where.
