Weekly Goals: 5/20/2019

It’s the beginning of a new week and time for our 'Just One Goal' check-in …

What was your goal for last week?

Did you meet it? Tell us if you did or didn't, we get encouragement both ways.

My 'just one goal' for last week was to construct another raised bed, and we did it!

The first one on the right side of the picture is the one we added.  It is not as wide as the other two but will work great for what we have in mind (we're going to use it to plant June-bearing strawberries).

My goal for this week is to can at least 7 quarts of potatoes from our garden.

What about you, how are you doing with your 'just one goal?'

What is your 'one' goal for this week?

  2. Patsy well done on completing another raised garden bed :). We are not preserving anything at the moment rather setting up our garden beds to be able to preserve things but you are doing so well with using all those free strawberries to make wonderful things for your home.

Our goal last week was to amend soil in 6 garden beds but we didn't do it after realising we had to source more manures after finding it impossible to buy reasonably priced cow manure. We did work towards our goal and picked up 3/4's of a cubic metre of cow manure free from a friends farm and totally dug out 1 garden bed ready to put amended soil in and I lined it with weed mat and grass clippings. The soil here is river silt and like concrete so we have to double till and remove the soil after each till to get it down low enough to put a deeper layer of the amended soil in.

Our goal for this week is to finish digging out the other 4 garden beds and removing the soil.

Hope everyone achieves their goals :).

    1. Lorna, you are definitely doing a lot of work with your garden beds. Do you have to do this every year?

    2. Hi Patsy no thankfully we don't have to do this every year although we do add manures once a year to the soil.

We have recently purchased our forever home so are starting from scratch here which is why it is taking a lot longer and far more work. Once they are set up and are running with the drip irrigation system we are digging into trenches.

Only have 2 1/2 garden beds to dig now with the rotary tiller and then we will mix this with other amendments and put it back in so it will be ready to plant in.

All good things come to those who work hard and wait :).

  4. Your gardens look great!

Our goal was to rest and we did and we have another week at the lake this week. I feel the tug of all that needs to be done back home but Hubby needs more rest.
