Teaching Little Girls to Sew: part 3

Normally, we have our sewing class on Thursdays but we needed to shift things around this week, so we had it today instead.

It was more straight stitching today, but it was through 3 thickness', the top of her baby doll blanket, the quilt batting and the backing.   She's just getting started in this picture!

She's learning how to follow a guide line when sewing in order to get a straight stitch line.  She did really well as long as she kept her eyes on the guide line, but every once in a while she would look away and there would be a wobble in her stitching.  These are all things we have to learn and this is the stage where she's at now along with getting comfortable handling the fabric as it feeds through the machine.  She got about half of the 'quilting' done today and should be able to finish it next week!

I am so very proud of her!

(She also helped me do some food preservation today, but that's another post!)

  1. When I learned to sew on a machine, I sewed everyday. I think that helped me become so proficient.

    1. Practical Parsimony, that would really be the best, but this little girl is only at my house one day a week.

  2. Great job she is doing. How old is she?
