Every Bit Counts Challenge: August 11th

 On day 11 of the Every Bit Counts Challenge, I canned and canned and canned!

What did I can?
I canned chili and pinto beans (14 jars of chili and 7 jars of pinto beans) and they all sealed but one jar of chili!  That's okay, I'll freeze that one jar of chili that didn't seal.  Twenty jars of yummy goodness will be added to my pantry for quick and easy meal preparation.  One bag of chili will be added to the freezer part of my pantry!

Yes, I'm tired, but it was a productive day's work!

I've said it before and I stand by it, keeping a well-stocked pantry should be approached and looked upon as a full-time job!  In my opinion it's that important!

  1. I canned and canned yesterday also. I canned 26 quarts of diced tomatoes (for chili and soups) and boy was I tired last night. But I slept well, and I loved seeing the jars all lined up on my table when I walked into the kitchen this morning. Today is housework day, but tomorrow I will hopefully be back to canning. The plan is to make several more jars of salsa. My boys and hubby love it.

  2. I often think of how time consuming food management is, but I really enjoy it so not complaining! Can you tell me how you can your chili and beans (or point me to where I can find recipe/directions)? Thank you!

    1. Jenny, it is time consuming but, to me, so worth while! I used the chili recipe in the Ball canning book.

    We have the big canner cooling right now with 14 jars of beef and pork. The whole time I was filling the jars I kept thinking of your lids failure. I am happy to keep hearing those lovely pings now and hoping they all seal.

    1. Lana, LOL, I think of those lid failures every time I can something. I think that experience will stay with me for a while! You did good with your beef and pork!
