Fitness Friday: 11/19/21

It’s Friday evening where I’m at and I’m finally getting a chance to sit down at my computer and put this post out.

How has your week gone from a fitness standpoint?  Let’s take a look at mine, then we’ll talk about yours.

Wins for the week:  I kept up with my daily exercise!  I must confess that even though I love the way exercise makes me feel, there are days I just don’t want to do it.   However, I know that unless I have a legitimate reason, not excuse, for not doing it, it becomes too easy for me to slide into missing one day, then two days, then three days and then those three days turn into a week and … you know how it goes!  So this week, I’m counting daily exercise as a win because there were a couple of days that I just didn’t want to do it!

Failures for the week (Acknowledging our failures is important as they can be a powerful learning tool if we let them.):   I totally ‘pigged out’ one day … there was no reason, I wasn’t aware of being stressed about anything and here’s the kicker … I wasn’t even hungry … but I overate anyway.  Clearly, I still have some work to do on figuring out why I sabotage myself like this!   The next day I got up more determined then every, especially after stepping on the scales, to get back on track and I did!  While weighing everyday is clearly not for everyone it is one of the safety nets that I have in place that helps keep me accountable.

How’d I do On Last Week’s Goals:  I had two goals for last week…

(1) Drink at least 68 ounces of water each day.  I did it!

(2) Test what I've learned with counting calories and portion sizes.  This week I want to take one day and not count calories ... can I control my portions?  Have I learned enough about what a portion of ____ should be without counting calories as a measure of how much?  I'm ready to start learning and experimenting to find out.  After my ‘pig out’ day I decided I had better not try so I tabled this goal for a while.

Goal for the upcoming week:  Read at least 50 pages of Chicken Soup for the Soul, Shaping the New You.  I’ve already started it and right off the bat it was ‘singing my song!’

Here’s a small excerpt from chapter 2…

The instructor helped me to understand where weight comes from; it comes from eating without thinking.  If I didn’t keep track of what I ate, I ate a lot more.  So I started writing down everything that went into my mouth.

I began to see that eating properly was like sticking to a budget.  I only had so many calories to use each day.  I decided that junk food wasn’t worth the price.

Okay, that's my update for this week.  I can't wait to read your updates/comments, let's work on getting and staying in better physical shape together!  Encouragement is so powerful!

For those who want a more private setting to share, I’ve created a private FB group for Fitness Friday.   Here's the link ... Fitness Friday.  Please note that answering the question when you request to join is required for approval.  If you've asked to join but have not been approved, please go back and answer the question.  Thanks!

  1. I'll start updating on the FB group. I like the interaction more on the groups but I will still be reading the blog.
