This Week's To-Do List: 5/29/22

It's time to check-in with my goals for last week and set new ones for this week.  It felt good all week to know that I was back in the groove of setting and working towards specific goals.  I felt like I got so much more accomplished.

 Here's how I did ...

Read and study Bible every day.  I did some form of Bible study every day.  I also completed another lesson in the course on the book of Mark that I'm enrolled in.

Exercise 6 days   I managed 5 days instead of the 6 I was going for, but I'm still pleased with that!

Plant sweet potato slips in 5-gallon buckets.  Done!  I got 2 buckets planted.  (The first picture is of a couple of the slips I grew for planting this year and the second picture is of the slips planted in a 5-gallon bucket.)  This will be the first year I've tried growing sweet potatoes in a 5-gallon bucket, so this is an experiment.  I've grown them in 25-gallon tubs successfully for several years, but I wanted to try 5-gallon buckets this year.  Wish me luck! (I'm going to plant some elsewhere in my garden also!)

Plant tomato suckers in 5-gallon buckets.  Didn't get this done.

Can Boston Butt.  Done!  I added 4 quarts to my pantry.

Can ham.  Done!  I added 6 quarts to my pantry.

Bake banana bread.  Done!  I baked 2 loaves.

Dig another row of potatoes.  Done!  The dry weather we've had all spring has affected the size of the potatoes, but there are plenty of them.  We have enough for us and have been sharing with others as well.

Preserve potatoes. Didn't get this done!

Plant October beans.  Done!

Make chicken salad for hubby.  Done!  He's enjoying it and so am I!

Make chicken pot pie at the beginning of the week for heat and eat quick lunches throughout the week.  Done!  We've both enjoyed this dish this week.

Sand table (this table belonged to my mom and I'm ready to refurbish it and start using it).  Didn't get this done!

Post one Instagram story (I'm going to have to learn how to do this, so if anyone has any pointers or advice, I would love it if you'd share.)  I did it!  I shared several photos of the flowers I'm growing on our little acreage. I still have some fine tuning to do, but I'm learning!  Go check it out!

Now, what about my goals for this week ... here's what they look like ...

Bible Study: specifically, work on rough draft of lesson #1 in a Bible study I'm writing on 'Knowing Our Enemy.'  I've already taught the lessons; I just need to get them in a written format.

Exercise:  Get in 70,000 steps by next Sunday.  If I do, I earn a chocolate candy bar to be enjoyed Sunday afternoon.  (LOL, how's that for a reward!!!)

Shred and dehydrate cabbage

Preserve rest of broccoli

Plant more sweet potatoes

This one is a carry-over from last week ... Sand table (this table belonged to my mom and I'm ready to refurbish it and start using it).

This is another carry-over from last week ... preserve more potatoes

And yet another carry-over from last week ... Plant tomato suckers in 5-gallon buckets

Post 2 more Instagram stories

Block out some sewing time!  I'd like to get in at least a couple of hours this week!  Wish me luck!

Assist hubby in drilling holes in boat we're turning into a raised bed.

That's it for this week, how did you do with your goals for last week and what's on your to-do list for the week?

Until the next post,

patsi

  1. You made very good progress on your list!

I chickened out and moved my haircut out two weeks but I am so glad I did because that day was not a day I could have done it.

Had my treatment for my EDS. Also learned some new things and as always I am so thankful for my alternative practitioner/teacher. She wants me to be better able to care for us.

Got a few pots planted on my deck but a long way to go. Still working as I am able. Every pot is a bit done!

Hubby needs to mow this week.

Hubby has a new grill to assemble. I bought it in the middle of winter from Woot for less than half price but it is still in the box in our garage.

Just keep us fed as some days this is quite hard.

    1. Lana, I hope you'll be feeling better by the time your hair appointment rolls around.

I bet that same grill would cost you much more now! That was a wise decision to buy it when you did. Maybe using the grill will make meal preparation easier during this season of recovery.

  2. Please give some details on shredding & dehydrating cabbage. I was given two heads of cabbage but have never dehydrated any before.

    1. Jenny, I shred it with my food processor or if I don't won't to deal with the processor, I just chop it up using a knife. You can either blanch or not blanch. If you choose to blanch, do it for 3 minutes and drain. Dehydrate until dry at 125 degrees. It's dry when you can break it easily. Hope this helps!

  3. Patsi, I grew 30 pounds of sweet potatoes last year using 5 gallon buckets and grow bags. I just finished planting my slips this morning planting 3 to s 5 gallon bucket. Also zucchini in 2 gallon buckets. You really got s lot accomplished this week. Some of my goals are automatic, things I do everyday so I don't list them. My goals were to finish planting the raised beds and containers. Done. Make gift boxes with matching gift bags. Done. Add new meatless meals to the freezer. Done. Try new re IPRs. Done. Last night I made Vietnamese summer rolls for dinner. The easiest thing ever. Clean closets. Halfway done.

    1. Cookie, thank you, that makes me feel better about my sweet potatoes! I'm going to give the zucchini a try too. What are Vietnamese summer rolls?

  4. For anyone reading who has not used Instacart before there is a crazy deal available. Get $35 off a $50 order when you pay with PayPal and use the code PAYPAL35. We did an Aldi order and chose to pick it up to save about $10 in fees. What a blessing to be able to get perishables and some pantry stock ups for so little!

  5. Wow, you accomplished a LOT more of your list than I did last week. But, this post has served as an inspiration to me and I'm going to start putting my weekly goals to paper, holding myself more accountable. In retirement, it's too easy to fritter away time -- and I DON'T want to do that! So thank you!

    1. Lori, that's why I went back to writing my goals down, frittering away time can happen before we realize it.
