This Week's To-Do List: 8/7/22

Another week has come and gone, and I really had to think about what I did!  Our summer garden is on its way out, so there's not a lot going on there.  The heat continues to be oppressive, so my outside activities have been carefully orchestrated to done in the early morning hours.

I harvested and filled several brown paper bags of herbs and elderberries and hung them in the greenhouse to dry.

I rested a lot this week!  I know, I can't believe it either, but I'm really trying to give my body everything it needs to make a complete recovery.

Here's what last week's 'to-do' list looked like and how I did ...

Bible:  Continue reading in the Psalms, work on my new memory verse Isaiah 41:13 and start work on a special six weeks 'Fall Series' I'll be teaching the tweens/teens class I teach.  Done!  Done!  Done! ... on all three items!

My Fitness Journey: I'm going to try for 60,000 steps again as well as add a couple new Pilates to my routine.  I added 2 new Pilates to my daily routine and logged 57,500 steps.  Not quite the 60,000 I was aiming for, but I'll take it!  I can tell I'm regaining my strength and am feeling better too.  It feels so good to be making noticeable progress after the events of the past 2 months.

Preserve figs that we were given to us. Didn't get done!  I did gather the items I needed to make fig jam and fig preserves though.

Finish stitching up a pair of linen pants I've almost gotten finished.  Didn't get done!  I did however work on hand quilting a Christmas quilt I've been working on off and
on since spring.  It feels good to have the use of my right hand and wrist back and be able to do some hand quilting, even if I do need to rest it from time to time.

Start planting fall garden.  Done!  I was able to clean out and amend 4 raised beds and while I didn't actually get seeds in the ground, I did get the prep work done so I'm counting that as a win!

Here's my 'to-do' list for the upcoming week:

Bible:  continue reading in the Psalms, continue working on my new memory verse Isaiah 41:13 and finish a post on how I use a faith planner (which will be posted over on From This Heart Of Mine.)

My Fitness Journey: Lose 1 pound; Walk 60,000 steps

Plant cabbage, broccoli and collards

Work on preserving onions (I'd like to caramelize some and then dehydrate them; the flavor is supposed to be heightened!)

Dehydrate and powder tomatoes

Declutter 10 items each day for at least 5 days

Finish reading STEP Into It by Anita Morris

That's all I'm going to take on this week!

A Working Pantry is a way of life, a lifestyle if you will!

My pantry is intentional, purposeful, simple, practical, frugal and what works for my family.  It’s the food items and household supplies that keep my household running smoothly ready and available when they are needed.  It’s my contribution to our family’s economy and my work-from-home ‘job.'

    1. Chef Owings, It's not easy, but I'm trying to behave and go at a slower pace.

  2. I am glad to hear you are on the mend!

We finished last week's list except meeting our friends for breakfast because they were sick.

Not on my list last week but done were canning black beans and hiring our neighbor boy to do some chores up on a ladder that we cannot do. We have had weird things going on with our plumbing like sinks that randomly would not drain and toilets that take many minutes to fill and a lot of sediment. A snake was run down all the vent stacks and the problem seems to have been solved! (My idea and everyone thought I was nuts.) This was hundreds less than calling a plumber. We also did a lot of pantry reorganization and moving food from one area to another and taking a count of some things.

    This week-

Can 7 quarts of stew using pork loin bought on sale for 1.49 a pound. The pork was only on sale for the weekend and I was afraid it would all be gone since we could not go until our neighbor boy finished the ladder work. I prayed about it and when we got there they had not even put them out in the cooler at NOON! 'Oh, we didn't know that was on sale. Let us look in the back.' God has a sense of humor since he saved many full cases for me to choose from!

    Monday house cleaning chores.

Wednesday-Try again for breakfast with friends.

    Thursday is small group here.

Find a place to store the canning lurking on the dining room table. Pantry space is full.

Grocery shop if there are any great deals.

Make food packing lists for the lake trip. Menus are made. Think it through and try not to miss anything. Also lists of items we need to bring since the kids will be visiting us there.

    Have a good week everyone!

    1. Lana, I love your God story, yes, He does indeed have a sense of humor! I'm glad everyone finally listened to you about the plumbing ... you saved your budget a lot of money!

  3. Last weekend was busy here. Like so many others, canning season is in full swing. I put up 17 pints of spaghetti sauce, 12 pints of Kosher dills, and 12 pints of Polish dills. Half the pickles will go to my daughter and her husband (who specifically asked for Polish dills), and she'll likely get some of the sauce, too. I still have about 1/4 of a half-bushel of pickles to do. I'm probably going to slice them into hamburger dills, some in pints and some (for me) in half-pints. My canning buddy and I are going to the farm stand tomorrow for more tomatoes (for him), and I plan on getting a smaller box of tomatoes for me, for making plain tomato sauce to put in 4 and 8 oz. jars (rather than paying for them in the store, and I know what's in them) and fresh peaches for jam, canned peaches, and for freezing, and maybe for a pie. So far, none of the stands have had green beans, don't know why. Maybe, like the concord grapes, the fields are all under commercial contract???? Aside from regular housework, that's my plan for the week, and I'm sticking to it.

    1. Lori, this is a busy time of the year for those of us who preserve food, but such a rewarding one at the same time. I hope you find some green beans and that you can afford the price if you do.
