There's a nip in the air that indicates fall is on its way! The daytime temps are still in the upper 80's and lower 90's but there's something in the air that says change is coming. I am eagerly waiting the time when we'll be done with the hot and humid temps of summer! I think that's why fall is my favorite time of the year; the cooler temperatures are such a relief after our brutal summers!
A few fall things I've noticed over the last couple of weeks ...
Until next time,

I am so ready for fall weather, mom has a pear tree but the pears disappeared over a couple of days squirrels eat them up . They are little pears not worth using tedious to prepare.
ReplyDeleteSquirrels apparently really like pears. Thankfully, we beat them to these!
DeleteIt is always interesting to me how a mere 80 miles west in an area of lakes has such a different habitat from home. There are no signs of Fall here at the lake house but we were seeing them two weeks ago at home. It will be surprisingly to see the difference this afternoon when we arrive home.
ReplyDeleteLana, we've seen it here too! It's amazing the changes a few miles can bring.
DeleteIt's amazing how quickly things transitioned to Fall, after Labor Day. The first thing I've noticed is that I need to grab a jacket when walking the pup in the early morning hours. This morning, it was 59* when we walked out the door. Our geese have started their trial runs, moving in the early morning from the lake and pond across the street to feeding grounds in fields a little farther west of me. I think because we had sparse rain in August, some of our trees are starting to change a little -- not much, but definitely a tinge of yellow is creeping in. And the wild pond-side plants are changing, too. Some (wild daisy-like plants) are dying off, and others (milkweed) are drying out and going to seed, yet others (ragweed?) are now in full force. It won't be long before the coyotes will be moving in the wee hours, and I'll need to be extra attentive when I walk the pup. The other thing I've noticed is how quiet it is during the day, now that the neighborhood kids are back in school.
ReplyDeleteLori, 90% of the trees in our area are evergreens so we have very little color change in the fall. School starting back is another sure sign of fall. Be careful while walking your pup, watch out for the coyotes!
DeleteI noticed that the sun is setting a little earlier and rising s little later. The nights have gotten cooler in the last week even though daytime temperatures are in the 80s, although today we had much needed rain and it only got up to 68 degrees. The squirrels on our property are more active than usual storing food. I've also noticed more bee activity.
ReplyDeleteCookie, our nights are still pretty warm in the mid - upper 70's and that pesky humidity is still hanging around so we're a ways away, but the change is in the air for sure. Now that you mentioned it, we've noticed the sun is setting earlier and rising later. The daylight hours are getting shorter. Hmmm, wondering if the squirrels are trying to tell us something!
