September 2022 Goals!

I'm late getting September's goals posted, but hey, better late than never!!

Here they are ...

(Updates throughout the month will be added in red, so check back often to see how I'm doing.)

Take inventory of my winter medicinal pantry and make sure we have things on hand we would need for winter colds, flu’s, etc.  The inspiration for this came from Jess The Pilgrim over on Instagram.  Here are the things I've checked and or replenished thus far:

Cider Fire; Elderberry syrup; Tylenol; Ibuprofen; fermented garlic/ginger honey; essential oils; herbs

Listen to and take notes from this video on herb gardening by Homesteading Family.  I’ve already listened to it once and afterwards decided that I needed to listen to it again and this time take notes.  Done!  I took a full page of notes and even listened to it a third time to make sure I hadn't missed anything.  Along the same lines I listened and took notes on this video about Emergency Herbs, also by Homesteading Family.  I found what I thought was valuable information in both videos.

Take part in Sew Your Stash by Whitney Sews.   I need to work on reducing my stash and this will give me the motivation I need to do it!  In the process!  I decided to participate in the Fat Quarter Shop mini-Christmas quilt sew-a-long this year and am pulling from my stash for supplies.  I labeled this 'in the process' as a new block is released each week so it's an ongoing stash buster that'll take me through the month of September.  I plan to 'sew my stash' for the rest of the year at least, so stay tuned for more!

I completed block one and two of this mini-quilt along and decided to discontinue it.  Why?  I realized that working with such small pieces was just not my cup of tea.  Block one wasn't bad, block two was enough to make me question my decision and when block three was released, I knew that I was done!  I'll use the two blocks I have completed for something other than their intended purpose.  Sometimes, you just have to know when to 'call it a day!'

I'll choose another 'sew your stash' project for October so stay tuned!

Increase my exercise time from 30 minutes 6 days a week to 1 hour 3 days a week and 30 minutes per day the other 3.  The one hour of exercise can be broken up into different amounts of time at different times of the day.  It just has to be done in the same day.

9/18/22:  I met my goal for this week of 1 hour of exercise 3 days a week and 30 minutes per day the other three ... 2 more weeks to go, can I do it!!!  Here's how I broke down the 1 hour of exercise on the days that I did that amount of time:  5 minutes of balance exercise, this is usually some time during the morning hours; 25 minutes of gentle jogging a loop from my kitchen island to my dining room table later in the day.  Our house has an open floor plan so this is easy to do.  Then at a different time in the day or evening I do/did 30 minutes of a Leslie Sanome, Walk Away the Pounds video.  By breaking it up into smaller increments of time and listening to my body, I find it' something I can do.

9/25/22:  I met my again this week ... 3 days of 1 hour of exercise each day!  I have to say that I really like how my body feels afterwards.

9/30/22:  Success!  I got in 3 days of 1 hour of exercise this week!  I did it!  I met this goal, and it feels good!

Read one 'hold it in your hands' book

9/25/22:  I'm about halfway through The Seekers by Wanda Brunstetter.  I've done so much research and deep reading lately, that I felt like I needed something light that I could just enjoy.  This book is fitting the bill nicely, meaning that I'm really enjoying this light read!

Hmmm, prepping for Hurricane Ian played havoc with my free time the last week of the month so I didn't get to finish this book!  Bummer ... I didn't even finish one book this month ... this will not do ... I have to be more intentional and that's what I plan to do for October!

Since I’m late getting September’s goal’s set, that’s all I’m going to attempt!

What about you, are you setting goals for September?  How did you do with your August goals?

Until the next post,

patsi

  1. Patsy, It was so good to see you recently! I woke up with the dreaded virus on Tuesday of that week and spent the rest of the time in bed. The travel home was rough, but I'm still glad I was able to be there a few days!
It sounds like you are "hitting the floor running" in September! I'm excited to see what you sew with those sheets and your stash.
I have two big sacks of pears to put up from my tree in the backyard. I'm thinking lots of pear sauce and some preserves would be nice!...Glenda

    1. Glenda, it was good to see you too! We've heard that several got the virus but thankfully, both hubby and I escaped it. By both of us having had it in June, I think, might have prepared us for not getting it at PTP.

I just harvested three 5-gallon buckets of pears and will be canning some, making pear butter with the overripe ones and making some pear preserves.

Please give yourself time to recover, the virus was wicked for me and left me with some long-term health issues that I'm just now getting over. The fatigue was the worst!

    2. Patsy and Glenda,. Are those the hard pears? I am seeing them for $15 for five gallons here and wondered how they are canned. Are they hard as rocks out of the canner?

    3. Lana, the ones I harvested are specifically for canning and yes, they are hard. I don't know the variety as the man who owns the tree doesn't know himself, he has always just called them canning pears.

  2. The Winter Medicine cabinet is a must do for me, too. I am hoping that Hopewell restocks Immunition soon as we are low on that and they have not had it for months. I went through our Christopher's Formulas this morning and placed an order. I know I need some Bandaids but need to see which ones.

My big goal for September is just being patient with myself with healing the genetic disease. I get so frustrated with myself and it does not help.

We need to take a good look around our house and property and see if anything needs to be addressed before cold weather. We go home tomorrow and after two weeks we are not even in tune with home because there were things to maintain and take of here.

    1. Lana, I need to place a Hopewell order too. Where do you order Christopher's Formulas from? Would love to know some of the basics you recommend and what they're used for.

It has taken us almost a week to get back in the swing of things at home while adjusting to hubby's injury. We have several seasonal things to do and winter preps need to get done as well. We just keep chipping away at them, resting often and doing the best we can.

I'm finding that resting often has been such a help in being able to get and keep things done.

I know it's hard to be patient with the time required for the healing of your genetic disease. I would feel the same way. You continue to be in my prayers.

  3. Thank you for praying for me. There is a lesson in this for me I am sure.

For Christopher's Formulas, they have a lot of them on Amazon and also Vitacost. I am working on building a supply of everything that seems to apply to us. They are so easy to use because they do exactly what they say they do. You would benefit from the Lung and Bronchial formula for sure. The Tissue and Bone formula would be beneficial for your husband's broken rib. Going into fall allergy season the sinus formula is wonderful All the formulas that we have used have been a great help.

  4. We're moving into Spring here. I found myself a bit overwhelmed with all that needed to be done in my Spring Cleaning. I decided to just do one thing and then one more. Breaking the jobs down has meant that they're getting done and I am feeling accomplished instead of overwhelmed. Spring cleaning is my major September job.
I was given an accuquilt cutter on Sept 1st. My goal is to learn to use this tool effectively and to make good use of it. I too have a stash of fabric that needs to be used. The accuquilt cutter is going to be a wonderful handmaiden in this.
The Winter garden is finishing off with many plants having gone to seed. I am gradually collecting the seeds then pulling the old plants. These are going to the chooks or into the compost. Finished compost is then layered onto the vegie beds before new seedlings are added. Seeds will then be added to trays and placed in the greenhouse.
I have lots happening this September. It is going to be busy

    1. Jane, I need to do fall cleaning but it will have to wait a bit longer. It's that overwhelm thing ... I've got to clear my plate of some things before I tackle the fall cleaning!

I know you will enjoy your accuquilt cutter, what a nice gift! You're doing with your winter garden what I've been doing with our summer garden. The chickens are happy and so is the compost bin!

  5. Thanks for the reminder about September goals. I'm working through some deep cleaning this month, and I need to have my furnace serviced this month.

My pup got into the guest bedroom (it used to be a baby/toddler's room for the previous owner) and "dug to China", leaving a spot in the carpet down to the floor boards. I suspect it may have been where the diaper pail or laundry hamper sat and he was working to make it his territory. I know, I should have kept that door closed, but didn't. So this means I need to get the carpet in there replaced before the holidays. Shopping for carpet starts this next week.

Toward the end of the month, I'll get the deck furniture stowed and take down and empty the planters, inventorying as I go, as some of them cracked over last winter and need to be replaced. Hopefully, I can find some replacements (for next year) on clearance.

I've also been learning to crochet and have to select a project piece. We've been pointed to some good sites to use, so it's just a matter of winding my way through setting up accounts and choosing from among thousands of patterns. A hat? Pumpkins for decor? Other????

I've also got a running list of pantry items to stock up on, and I do need to check my medical stash (thanks for the reminder). I received the 1st pack of 4 "C" tests today, and there should be a 2nd pack coming early next week.

    1. Lori, I want to up my crocheting and try something new too, but I don't think it's going to happen in September!!! Some of our best 'sitting outside' time is in September, October and November so we'll wait on putting away the outdoor furniture until November.

We had a dog that did the very thing yours did one time and we had to replace the carpet in that room as well!

Sounds like you've got a busy month, I hope you are successful!

  6. August goals didn't happen because we got Covid and are just now starting to get our energy back. The fall garden didn't get planted so we will be supplementing what we are harvesting and preserving with things from the various farms we shop at. Yesterday we harvested acorn squash , potatoes and chard, so the goal is to freeze the squash, make some colcannon with the potatoes and freeze for future meals and freeze the chard. I need to replenish prepared meals for the freezer as we used many of them while we were ill. It was such a blessing to have them on hand, especially the soups.

    1. Cookie, I'm glad you both are starting to get your energy back, it took a while for ours to return to what was normal for us too.

I want to get several freezer meals in the freezer as well as we've used almost all that we had on hand. You're right, when you're not feeling well, having them ready to thaw and cook is such a huge blessing.
