Pantry Building Challenge: 2/6/23

Our challenge for last week had us taking notice of one item we needed for our pantry ... and then buy at least two of them.

Due to coming down with covid, I didn't complete this challenge, I think it's the first time I've not done something, but I just wasn't up to it.  So, I'll just roll this one over into this week and do 2 challenges!

(Update on my covid recovery:  I am doing much better, have gotten a negative covid test reading and am slowly returning to what's normal for me.  The biggest thing I'm noticing is the fatigue, so I'm being kind to myself, resting a lot and giving my body time to recover.  Thank you to everyone who prayed, reached out to me and showed such concern!  It was comforting knowing that others were thinking of me during this time.)

How did you do with last week's challenge?

The challenge for this week is to add at least one item to the freezer part of your pantry.

That's it for this week ...

I hope you've found something helpful or inspiring in today's post!

Until tomorrow ...

  1. I'm glad you are being kind to yourself and taking time to heal.

We were almost out of our stock of sandwich meat in the freezer so I was glad to see Applegate family packs of ham for .99 at the salvage stores. We put five packs in the freezer. We were also low on our favorite Krusteaz Belgian waffle mix so we restocked with a BOGO sale at Publix. We added four more canisters of oats for a .52 money maker each. We canned five jars of great northern beans because we be were out after making supper for friends. Almost all of our of pint jars are full so we bought 3 dozen while they are still available ahead of canning season.

    1. Lana, that is very smart to buy canning supplies now while they are available! You got some great deals!

  2. I'm in my 60s and have had covid twice now. Both were mild cases. The fatigue lasted several months after testing negative. Please take care of yourself. It will be hard because you are so active but you may have days when you just can't.

    1. D Fuller, this is the second time I've had covid too, and that's the way it was the first time. At least this time, I'll know it's part of the recovery.

  3. I am glad you are improving, Patsi. You are in my prayers for a full recovery.
For the challenge, I added 3 bottles of vitamins. The multivitamin I had been taking contains three of my allergens (I was poisoning myself daily lol), so I needed to find an alternative.

    1. Kelsey, thank you for your prayers! I'm so glad you discovered those allergens in your vitamins. You'll probably find more discoveries like this!

  6. So thankful you're on the mend. Please don't overdo it! Today I made a run to Michigan (from the Chicagoland area, about a 90 min. drive one-way) to tackle some financial stuff with my mom. While there, we made a stop at the grocery store where I grabbed 2 jars of peanut butter (I just finished my last one) and found my fav hair gel and hairspray on the clearance end-cap -- grabbed one of each, which will last me more than a year. I also found a 3-pack of antibacterial bar soap on sale and will add those to my stash. Spent all of $12. An added bonus was that gas was 55 cents cheaper on a town that is mid-way between Mom's and my place, so I fueled up and saved more than $7.00 on my fill-up.

  7. Peanut butter. I did a bogo on Peter Pan 29 ounce jars and bought two, one to use now and one to put in the pantry.

  8. I did not get this done last week as we bought little, and I did not go in. I bought skippy peanut butter, bogo, 2/$4.
