Pantry Challenge #23 ... 2015

I received the following comment from a reader this week …

I don't have any idea how much credit you get from Amazon but over the last few days I ordered 3 expensive car seats and cookware. I like your blog so much and I went through your links so I hope it helps you.

My heart wanted to explode with joy … I thanked the reader for her support both in word and deed and thought that now would be a good time to thank everyone for your words of encouragement and the financial support you provide by purchasing through my Amazon affiliate link and/or by purchasing my e-book, Yes, You CAN Have a Well-Stocked Pantry!   The percentage I make through my Amazon affiliate link is small but every little bit helps and I want you to know that I appreciate every cent of it.

Okay, let’s see what I got done in my pantry last week …

My to-do list from last time:

Start a batch of ‘Gwen’s Bread.’   Didn’t get done!  I really want to try this bread but we have been so busy this week … maybe next!

Continue harvesting raspberries. Done!  I added 10 (1/2 cup) bags to the freezer part of my pantry.  I also made 2 quarts of raspberry syrup which I froze.

Harvest raspberry leaves from growth on new canes and dehydrate them.  I’ll use them in herbal tea.  In the works!

In addition:

I ordered pure Stevia from THM (Trim Healthy Mama) using money I earned selling my e-book Yes, You CAN Have a Well-stocked Pantry.  I was getting low and am so glad that enough e-books sold that I could restock this essential item in my pantry.

I continue to chop and freeze our spring onions.  I added 14 (1/2 cup) packages to the pantry part of my pantry.

Our Sam’s Club ‘finds’ this week were 20 bars of Dial soap on clearance for $4.91, Chex Mix snack bags on clearance for $4.01/box of 36 individual bags, (The Chex Mix will be used for snacks in our upcoming VBS.) and popcorn shrimp on clearance for $.51/box.

I used up all the laundry detergent in the container but instead of buying more I filled the container back up with my homemade laundry detergent that I keep on hand.  I make a big batch and it usually lasts me for a year.

Our squash has started producing and I canned 14 quarts.  It looks like sunshine in a jar!

I canned 26 pints of beets.

I cashed in $30 worth of points I earned through Swagbucks and Bing at Amazon.  I used it to purchase groceries through Amazon to add to my pantry.

We added $5.55 to our change jar.

I added garden leftovers to my compost bin and gave some to our month old baby chicks.

I saved fabric scraps from my sewing day this week and added them to my sewing scraps bucket.  I’ll be starting on a new scrap quilt this week.

I removed buttons from a shirt of my husbands’ that has become badly stained.  I cut the shirt into pieces, cutting out the stains, and added the fabric to the fabric part of my pantry.

This week on my sewing day, I made a Mickey Mouse pillowcase for my grandson, super soft baby washcloths for his baby sister (along with 2 more to go in my gift trunk) and completed another page of the quiet book I’m making for my oldest granddaughter.  You can see pictures and read about it HERE.

I planted the lemon seeds I have been waiting patiently to sprout.  I planted 11 sprouted seeds in 8 pots.  Three of the pots have 2 seeds planted in them.  I’ll be watching them all closely; I really want to grow my own lemons if I can.  To find out what else I’ve been doing in the garden this week you can read my 2015 gardening journal HERE.

Here’s my pantry to-d0 list for next week:

Make Gwen’s Bread

Can more squash

Can potatoes.  A friend gave us some newly dug potatoes and I’m going to try canning them as shredded potatoes to be cooked as hash browns when opened.   (This is purely an experiment, so we’ll see how it goes.)

Now it’s your turn, what have you done to build up your pantry or live frugally?
