The Ways of My Household ... 1/16/2017

I received these gifts from a reader this week.  Signnnnnnn!   I simply loved it!  Look at that pretty tea cup and saucer and it had a beautiful scripture on the saucer too.  I have a weakness for pretty tea cups and saucers!  Now, look at those fat quarters … aren’t they just to die for … I absolutely love the colors and patterns … you do know that I am an avid quilter, don’t you!   And the teas, I can’t wait to try them.  Thank you Paula, I am honored that you would send me such sweet gifts!
Well, we’ve done another series of days without running water in the house.  Our well pump went out again and we’ve had the opportunity to get more practice in the area of living without running water.  Hopefully, this time we’ve gotten to the bottom of what the real problem is and are in the process of getting it fixed.   Although, we’ve made it fine other than the inconvenience, I really am ready to be done with this!   Also, let me just say, it takes more water than you think just to take care of the minimum basics.  I know the recommended amount to store for each person is 2 gallons per day … I disagree.  It took a whole lot more than 2 gallons per day for us … cooking, washing dishes, drinking, flushing the toilet … 2 gallons a day per person just does not meet our needs so I’ll be upping the amount we have available for emergency situations.  I might add that we were ultra sparing in using our water … dishwashing water went in the toilet tank as did the water from washing our hair, etc.  Very little of our precious water actually got poured down the drain!
My husband and I attended seven hours of classes on biblical counseling this week in a nearby town.   I went to these classes thinking I would learn how to help others in a better way, but instead found that it was the very balm that I needed!  Now, isn’t that just like God!!!!   I stand in awe of Him!
We saved $305.21 using coupons and shopping sales for food and non-food pantry items.
I made ginger cubes this week for bottled water using these ice trays.  These ice cubes fit right down into a bottle of water.  I’ll use these ginger cubes in this GGMS drink.  I also made lemon cubes which I’ll use to make lemonade sweetened with stevia.  I call these 'beverages on the go!'
I am working towards earning enough Amazon gift cards to purchase the T-Tapp Basic DVD set.  If you’ve read my Goals for 2017: Season by Season, you’ll know that this is one of my goals for the winter season.  I’m trying to earn the gift cards through Swagbucks, MyCokePoints and Amazon affiliate links.  Thank you to those who are using my affiliate links, you are helping me reach this goal.
I did it!  I finished my 100 Day Crochet Challenge.  I did three more dishcloths this week while riding to class each day. That’s one of the many things I like about crocheting, I can do it while riding down the road and some weeks we do a lot of that!  I continue to work on the blanket I started last week and will do a complete reveal of my journey from my first project on day 1 of the challenge, to the big project I’m working on now … as soon as possible.   While I still have lots to learn, I have also learned a lot … I am so pleased!  This style of learning actually suits my personality quite well.  Savings on dishcloths: $11
My next 100 day challenge is going to be about essential oils.  I want to explore this world and as I have no preconceived notions or preferred brands I will be starting with a clean slate.   I’m excited about getting started on this 100 Day Challenge but before I do, I want to do a mini 10 day challenge on machine quilting.   I’ll be using this book as my guide and instruction manual … Pat Sloan’s Teach Me to Machine Quilt.  The rules:  work at least 15 minutes a day on the challenge for 10 days!  The days do not have to be consecutive.  Let the new challenge begin!!!!

Not working outside my home … Saved $100

Thus far this year my Vicky Challenge Savings  savings/earnings have been $302.96, add this week’s amount ($416.21) and the final total for 2017 comes to $719.17.

Now it’s your turn, what have you done to build up your pantry, care for your household or live frugally this week?

She looketh well to the ways of her household … Proverbs 31:27
