During my daily morning garden walk I noticed that the lemon balm needed harvesting. I pulled out my garden clippers (similiar to these) that I keep in my gardening apron and set to work. While enjoying the fragrance that comes as the result of working with lemon balm, I began thinking about what I could use it for other than in teas and herbal remedies. Were there other uses for my prolific pot of lemon balm?
Once inside, I started researching and found other ways I
could use this lemon scented herb other than in teas and herbal remedies. Here are a few I found …
As an ingredient in making butter spreads
As an ingredient in cookies
As an ingredient in bath and or shower salts and scrubs
As an ingredient in potpourri
As an ingredient in seasoning blends
These are just some of the ways my research led me to, but the
number of ways to use lemon balm is not really the point of this post. The point of this post is to encourage us to expand
our knowledge of ways to use what we have.
For such a time as this, we need to find more uses for what we
have on hand. Lemon balm is my example,
can you give one? What have you learned to find more uses for?
If you find this series helpful, please share it with others. If we all do what we can to help each other whether it be through writing, sharing, teaching, coming along beside each other or any other means, the world will be a better place!
Until the next post,

We have lemon balm everywhere here. Once it self sows there is no stopping it! I love it's scent, too.
ReplyDeleteI recently found out that I can dehydrate foods in my air fryer. We just ordered a bigger one so I will have more room to try it out. Plus we love the air fryer because we rarely turn on the oven anymore which keeps the kitchen cool which is more savings.
Lana, that's why I grow lemon balm in a big container!!! Can you bake in an air fryer?
DeleteWow, this is very helpful! I grow lemon and lime balm. Seeing it can be used in cookies was a lightbulb moment so thanks!

Debbie, I have never heard of lime balm!! I'm going to have to research that. Thanks for sharing!
DeleteI’m wondering if lemon balm can be used to flavor sugar in an airtight container which can be used in baked goods.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, I've tried never it, but it makes sense that it would work.
DeleteVery helpful, as I've mentioned that it's been taking over my front flower garden. Now I have some ideas of what to do with it. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteHi Patsy! I thought I'd drop by to visit TheWorkingPantry (been a bit since I've been here) as I'm feverishly working on my pantry these days. Lemon balm is my favorite herb. I make a pesto with it and drizzle it over pasta. My family loves it! I'm thinking of making a big patch soon to freeze.
ReplyDeleteHi Lynn, can you share your recipe for lemon balm pesto?
