~ from my home to yours ... ~
I love our little home, it's perfect for us! There's warmth and love within its walls and yes, mason jars, home preserved foods, herbs, books, WIP projects, lots of snuggly quilts, a swing on the front porch and a rocking chair nearby! We call it home and we call ourselves blessed. We give God the glory for He has had and continues to have His hand in it all!

From My Home to Yours: 1/30/26

  From My Home to Yours

1/30/26

~  prepping for another winter storm  ~

Yes, you read that right, we prepped for a winter storm event last weekend and another one is forecast for this weekend.  Forecast are all over the place as to the amount of snow we are predicted to get and for an area that I laughingly call 'the land of no snow,' a forecast of any amount of snow is a pretty big deal.  So, once again we are in full storm prep mode.

Because of this, I just haven't had time to work on a post for this week.  We are checking our storm prep list and then checking it twice.

We've listened to forecasts for our area until I am 'forecast weary,' yet because of the potential seriousness of this winter storm, I continue to check.

This is what we're being told at this time ...

we could get up to 16 inches of snow in our area ...
we could have a small amount of freezing rain ...
wind gusts are forecast to be up to 60 miles per hour at times ...
forecasters are using the word 'blizzard' for our area ...
an arctic blast is accompanying the snow ...
the storm itself is supposed to last for about 24 hours, in some areas more ...
it's supposed to start tonight and go through Sunday varying in degrees of intentness ...

but then ... we could be in a 'dry slot' and get a dusting ...
however, the arctic blast would still be in place.

We have prepared for the worst and are praying for the best!

Our area never gets snow, so if this pans out to be some 16 inches along with blizzard conditions, I may be offline due to a power outage and or without internet for a few days.

In other news, we're getting things ready to begin our first ladies Bible study of 2026 over on From This Heart of Mine, but before we do that we've done a Recap of 2025.

Like I said, I just haven't had time to do a proper post this week, I hope you'll understand.

Update:  2/1/26 ... In the land of 'no snow,' we woke up to ...

about 12 inches of snow ...
a temperature of 18 degrees with the feels like at 6 degrees ...

this is indeed a rare occurrence for our area ...

so thankful for our preps and preparedness ...
we are warm and safe and as of this update, still have power!
We are thanking God for His care and for His 'going before us and preparing the way!'

Until the next time ...

  2. Our forecast is just as crazy as yours but not nearly that bad. Some say eight plus some say three. We are just weary of it all just like you. Praying for safety for everyone in the path of the storm. Be safe my friend.

We had two sleds in our garage that we handed to the neighbor kids for sliding on the ice . They had a blast and we decluttered two items. I hope they get to play in snow too

    1. Lana, you all be safe too and that was so sweet of you all to pass the sleds on to your neighbors kids! I bet you earned 'brownie points' with those kids! Praying everyone's power stays on!

  4. Like you, here in the mountains of southwest Virginia we are sitting in a second storm in a week's time. We are as prepared as we can be with 3 generators of assorted sizes; 1 gas powered and 2 solar powered. We did not lose power last weekend and had no school this past week. This current storm continues to give us snow. Last one gave us ice. Last weekend I had made stew in the crockpot so we would have something hot should we lose power. I would have served it whenever the power went out. But since we kept power it was served for dinner that first night. Having dinner prepared allowed me to enjoy watching the snow fall. We have our gas fireplace for alternate heat or we can go downstairs where it stays a constant 67 degrees. We have lots of blankets and warm clothes as well. I did not have to go out to the store as we have quite a full pantry/freezer. Thanks to all I have learned from you, Patsy, I feel very confident we will be fine. It has been the severe cold temps that have been the worst. Tomorrow when we wake up it is supposed to be -20 with the windchill.! There is some more winter weather forecast for mid-week here. It is such a comfort and relief to know we have things covered and do not have to worry about heat, food, or water. I did can some water 2 weeks ago. I have so many empty quart jars so I will can some more water this week. Thank you, Patsy, and community for encouraging others to be prepared without a spirit of fear. Marley in the Mountains

    1. Marley, your post does my heart good! Yes, preparing without a spirit of fear or doomsday mentality, that's my aim and goal!

Like you, we feel confident we will be fine and yes ma'am, that cold temperature and windchill is a doozy for us too!

Thank you, you've encouraged me greatly to keep on keeping on with my message ... you can prepare to take care of your family without a doomsday mentality.

Stay safe and warm and again, thank you!

  5. I'm in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and we are expecting 18 degrees F for Monday. It's been a year of extremes, with both heat and cold.

  6. That’s a lot to take in, especially for an area that isn’t used to snow. It sounds like you’ve prepared really well. I hope the storm fizzles out and you only get a light dusting. Thinking of you and hoping you stay warm and safe. Here, in the southern hemisphere we are experiencing hot Summer weather. It appears we are both indoors xox

    1. Stephanie, we have done a lot of preparing this week, but the foundation of preparedness was already there. It's taken us years to get to the level we are now, but every time we need it, I'm so thankful we put the effort in!

  7. Our 'high' today was 30...and now the windchill is something like 11F. That's some real cold. We'll be sleeping tonight with the propane heater on inside our house. No danger of losing power but it's too cold for the heat pump to keep up. I've had the curtains drawn in the house all day long. The snow is all about 50 miles east of us here...

    Hope everyone is safe!

    1. Terri, it was 19 degrees here this morning with a feels like temp of 6. That is just so very cold for our area. We got a foot of snow but our power has stayed on and we are warm and safe!
