Our Day at the Mennonite Sale and Auction!

Today, we attended the annual Mennonite Horse Drawn Implement Sale and Auction that's held in Scottsville, Kentucky every year.  It rained most all the day yesterday and most of the ground was muddy but we picked our way around on the dry spots and had an enjoyable day in spite of all the standing water and mud ... and did I mention that it was cold!
As you can see, there were all kinds of horse drawn farm implements.
There were plants for gardening, both flowers and vegetables, and hanging baskets.
Here's just one of several portable chicken coups we saw.  They had lots of chickens for sale as well as goats and other animals.
While my husband went in one direction, I went in another and found this 4 lb bucket of homemade lye soap for $4.  I was thrilled to find this!!!!  (Some dear friends who went with us found this deal first and shared where to find it.)
There was a 'bookstore' set up on site and I found this book there.  This book has been on my 'check it out' list for quite some time.  I was delighted to find it and after looking through it I knew I wanted to add it to my herb book library.  (A link for this book can be found at the end of this post.)
At another 'tent' I found these two books ... Fertilizers for Free was $1 and Harvest was $5!   (The links for these books can be found at the end of this post.)
At a nearby Amish store we found dried cantaloupe ... we didn't buy any but it was the first time I had seen cantaloupe dehydrated and I thought you might like to see it too.

On the shelf beside the cantaloupe were dried figs, peaches and cherries.  So many things can be dehydrated!
While in the area we also visited a non-electric Mennonite store where I finished stocking up on my spices.  The spices part of my pantry is now fully restocked and ready for use!
It was a lovely day in spite of the cold, wet and muddy conditions and I can't wait to come back again next year!
