A Mini-Stock Up at Dollar Tree!

We had to make a trip to the nearest bigger city today and while there I stopped in at the Dollar Tree.  We have Dollar Tree stores in our area but they are not very big and don't carry a lot of things the bigger stores do.

Here's what I purchased ...

Welch's 100% grape juice ... $1 each  (best buy date of 12/21)

Welch's 100% apple juice ... $1 each (best buy date of 11/21)

Jasmine Rice ... $1 each  (Jasmine rice is so expensive, I was delighted to find it in 1 lb packages.  While larger bags, like the ones found at grocery stores and bulk food stores, are too expensive for our budget, these smaller packages make it possible to add Jasmine rice to my pantry without blowing our food budget.  The smaller packages are not always the best price, but if that's what you can afford, then that's what you buy!)

and garden seeds!  (I picked up flower seeds, kale seeds, herb seeds, pumpkin seeds and pepper seeds.   Some of the seeds were even heirloom seeds which makes me very happy!  The price for the seeds were 4 for $1.)

I spent $19 plus taxes for everything in the picture, my pantry got a boost and I got seeds for my garden!

Do you have Dollar Tree store 'finds' to share, I would love to hear about the items you shop for at Dollar Tree stores.

A Working Pantry

She looketh well to the ways of her household … Proverbs 31:27

My pantry is intentional, purposeful, simple, practical, frugal and what works for my family.  It’s the food items and household supplies that keep my household running smoothly ready and available when they are needed.  It’s my contribution to our family’s economy and my work-from-home ‘job.'

  1. We don't have "Dollar Tree" but we do have "Dollarama" - although there are many items over $1 and not as much food stuff as you get in the US. You also need to be careful about where stuff is manufactured - some items are a bargain - others not so much.
I do shop there occasionally but not since the Pandemic hit last March. Even though we have strict rules they aren't the best at always following them and the one time that I thought I'd venture in - I took one step inside and decided that there were just way too many people in there for me and turned around and left!

    1. Margie, your Dollarama sounds like our Dollar General Stores. Lots of things there are over $1.

  2. Those were some nice purchases! I never knew they had Jasmine rice for sale. But we're live in the country, too. Next time we're in the city I'll go check what they carry.
I usually like to purchase those plastic envelope folders as they are perfect for our homeschooling materials (such as file folders, playbooks, etc.), and I also like to buy their doilies (lots of them come in a package for just one dollar), serving platters, party supplies, greeting cards, bag clips (the good kind), and storage bins. I even purchased a toolbox and each of the most common tools for one of my son's birthday and he loved it. There are many good little finds at the dollar tree.😊

    1. Gabrielle, This was the first time I had seen Jasmine rice in a Dollar Tree, so it might a relatively new product. I also purchase party type supplies at the Dollar Tree!

  3. I've not been a big fan of Dollar Tree in the past, most likely because I tend to get "sucked in" and buy things I don't really need, and I can often find equal (if not better sale) pricing at my regular grocery store. But, one item I like -- and it's the only place I've seen it -- is a compact-size Dove face cream. It goes on smoothly and does a really good job moisturizing my skin. I've not seen it anywhere else. It's fairly flat, maybe 1/2" thick, with a screw top. Inside, the cream is foil covered and I only pull off a small piece, keeping most of it covered so it won't leak if I travel with it.

    1. Lori, I don't know that I've seen the Dove face cream, it sounds like it would be convenient for traveling for sure.

  4. We loaded up on seeds the last time we went, too. I always have success with their inexpensive seeds. We buy all our greeting cards there so we go about every 3 months and buy all that we need for upcoming birthdays, etc. We are also always on the lookout for small items that can go in an envelope to Germany to the grandkids and small gifts for the other grandchildren when we see them. Lately they have had some great items in the craft section such as bakers twine. We always buy our button batteries there as you can't beat the price anywhere. But, if we only need a few specific items I stay in the car and let Hubby run in and get what we need because things have a way of getting on our (my) cart that we could have done without.

    1. Lana, LOL, that happens with your cart too??? I had not thought about looking for small things to go in envelopes for the grands! What a great idea ... you've given me a whole new reason to shop at Dollar Tree! We buy all our greeting cards there too, you can't beat 2 for $1!

  5. Good for you! I like to buy dry pinto beans when they have 2 pound bags...sometimes they only have 1 pound bags. I also get the 1 pound bags of Himalayan sea salt when they have it in stock. It's such a great buy!

    1. Amalia, I watch for the pinto beans and Himalayan sea salt too. Both of those items are hit and miss at our small town Dollar Tree stores though.

  6. I love to shop at Dollar Tree! Let's see...things I purchase there: vitamins and melatonin, hairbrushes, craft supplies, manila envelopes, dishcloths, tissue paper, wrapping paper, stickers, flowers (for seasonal decor), oh...just all sorts of things!

    1. Jennilee, that's a good list, I buy some of those things there too!

  7. I agree Dollar Tree has a lot of good prices, and I buy a lot there. I don't think I'll ever buy another greeting card anywhere else! Hanover canned baked beans are made in the US and comparable to Bush's original recipe...a great pantry item. If you don't need the juices in individual bottles, frozen grape juice at Winco is only $1.16 or less per 12 ounce can and makes 48 ounces. I use 4 cans of water and make 60 ounces because we think it tastes better. I drink a lot of grape juice because I can't handle citrus.

    1. mikemax, I'll check out the Hanover canned baked beans, thanks for the suggestion. Sadly we don't have Winco in our area, but the frozen grape juice is a good idea.

  8. We dont have dollar tree but we have similar cheap stores with various names. I get so many things in these stores. All gift wrap, most cleaning items, anything plastic like buckets, containers for anything, any kind of art or craft supplies, then things like glue, batteries, candles.... If I need something I look there first. It is a huge saver. Also quite good fun!

  9. What good bargains! I have been in a dollar tree when I visited Pennsylvania some years ago. I am still using the pot holders I bought. They were such good value. We used to have several £1 shops but now there is only one and not everything is £1. It has closed until lock down is over. I do use £stretchers especially for food. I just bought a large bottle of soy sauce for £1. That would have only bought a tiny bottle in the supermarket. I also bought 5 pairs of very good socks for £4. What I like is that you never know what you will find there. Yes, good fun.
