My To-Do List: Italian Seasoning

I've had making Italian Seasoning for seasoning purposes and for making Italian dressing on my to-do list for a while.  In fact, it's been on my to-do list so long that I let myself run completely out!!  Yikes!

Yes, I could put it on my shopping list and pick up a container the next time I grocery shop but I'm really trying to do what I can with what we have as much as possible.

The ingredients for the Italian Seasoning recipe are:

 1 1/2 tsp garlic powder

1 T onion powder

2 T oregano

1 T parsley

1 T sugar

2 T salt

1 tsp pepper

1 tsp basil

1/4 tsp thyme

1/2 tsp celery flakes

After checking my pantry for the ingredients, I found I had everything except dried parsley and celery flakes.  Since I have parsley growing in pots right outside my door I headed out and snipped a bowl full and into the dehydrator it went.

Our parsley is flourishing!

Next, I headed to the greenhouse where I had celery growing in a pot that I started from  discarded portions.  I stuck them in soil and the rest is history.  Yes, it does regrow, this is the second 'growing' from the original portion I planted.  I snipped off several stalks, chopped it up and into the dehydrator it went as well!

(The bottom shelf has celery and the other 3 are filled with parsley)

Once these two items were dehydrated, I was ready to make the Italian seasoning dry mix.

I quadrupled the recipe!
(Here's a link to the measuring spoons, aren't they pretty and colorful!  They are convenient to use as there are so many sizes.)

I can now mark this item off my 'to-do' list!

until next time,

  1. Thank you for sharing! I, too, am nearing the end of my jar of Italian seasoning, and always wondered what the mixture ratios were. :-)
