She looketh well to the ways of her household … Proverbs 31:27

A Working Pantry is a way of life, a lifestyle if you will!

My pantry is intentional, purposeful, simple, practical, frugal and what works for my family.  It’s the food items and household supplies that keep my household running smoothly ready and available when they are needed.  It’s my contribution to our family’s economy and my work-from-home ‘job.'

  1. If there is ever an item in the ad again that I use, I will buy it. Ads these days seem to be boxes, bags of "food" items. I use whole ingredients. I keep hearing the same comment from other frugal bloggers. Ads stink.

    1. Elle, we watch the ads for sales on meats mostly and a few other items that we use on a regular basis.

  2. I check ads online and then Ibotta and coupons, com. We don't get the paper anymore. I also check Southern Savers and I Heart Publix for deals and matchups. We are only buying the best deals for pantry stock up right now but it adds up fast.

    1. The online world has definitely changed how we get ads and coupons, this is a great help. When we grocery shop we are mostly buying pantry stocking deals too.

  3. I do the same thing, marker and ads. Then, i give it to Tommy and he circles what he finds, usually zucchini. We use four ads, so I can shop for zucchini at the cheapest store. My milk is only at Publix, so his comes from there, too, if I need milk. Mostly, I buy fruits and vegetables. However, I waited for the bogo for Miracle Whip! I find I rarely have to pay full price for anything. But, if I want it, I only get one. I wait for a sale for buying stock up.

    1. Practical Parsimony, we're Miracle Whip users too. We try really hard not to pay full price for any that we don't absolutely have too, too!

    2. I bought three MW bogo. I will use it up well before the use by date, but there will be other sales before I run out.

    3. Practical Parsimony, you and I have similar shopping patterns.

  4. Lately, my shopping list has been on regular-size notebook paper, divided into columns for each store I'm thinking of shopping at -- one column for each store. I check each store's flyer to see if the same items are on sale and, by noting the prices in neighboring columns, I can quickly see who has the best price. If one store has consistently lower prices on these sale items, that is where I shop (if I can't make it to multiple stores that week). Over the 4th of July week, there was a 30% difference in the price of pork and beans (which needed for my pantry AND for our family BBQ), and one store had BOGO on top-quality hot dogs (2/$4), where others were just a slight mark-down (from $3.29 to $2.79, same brand).

    1. Lori, your plan allows you to be able see at a glance where the best deal is, I like that!

  5. Patsi yes we do the same here to get the lowest price items we can :) .

In Australia we don't tend to have many coupons for anything but I do get rewards extra points on certain grocery products each week and sometimes an amount of promo dollars off every now and again with a special code with a certain supermarket spend amount. I do however buy e-gift cards from our roadside assist club that gives us 4% off our groceries and fuel and if coupled with half price specials I can save up to 54% or more with good markdowns too. Also the supermarkets have a points system and once you reach 2000 points you can get $10 off your grocery order too which I use.

I do look at the grocery sales catalogues online and if driving past multiple stores will pick up items on my grocery shopping list that are cheaper in each store.

I do keep a perpetual shopping list of items that often come on almost or half price sales for instance deodorant, vitamins and minerals, long life tinned meat and vegetables, spam and others and because I have a stockpile I wait until then to stock up on those items on sales.

It certainly does save a lot.

    Have a great week :) .

    Lorna.

    1. Lorna, that's one of the perks of maintaining a well-stocked pantry, one can afford to wait until items go on sale to restock!
