~ from my home to yours ... ~
I love our little home, it's perfect for us! There's warmth and love within its walls and yes, mason jars, home preserved foods, herbs, books, WIP projects, lots of snuggly quilts, a swing on the front porch and a rocking chair nearby! We call it home and we call ourselves blessed. We give God the glory for He has had and continues to have His hand in it all!

Summer Series 2026: Building a Pantry with $5 a Week ... week #12

Summer Series 2026: Building a Pantry with $5 a week ... #12

Here we are at our final week of our $5 a week Pantry Building Challenge!

This challenge has helped me to take note and focus on getting the most from my $5 as well as look closely at what needed replenishing in my pantry.  This was a no frills challenge for me and helped me restock several of our basics.

I hope it has been helpful to you as well.

Okay, what about this final week, what did I add to my pantry for $5 or less ...

I did a repeat of the organic carrots for a total of $3.98.  I was delighted to see that they were still on sale so I grabbed up 2 more bags and like before, I plan to turn them into fermented carrots.  (Each bag was $1.99 each)

And now, let's take a look at what I added to my pantry throughout this challenge utilizing just $5 a week ...

Small amounts add up!
Small amounts spent wisely can make a difference!
Small amounts is a great place to start when building up your pantry!

Okay, now it's your turn ... what did you spend your $5 on this week and if it's a food, how do you plan on using it?

Next Monday, we'll meet back here for the details on our next pantry challenge, this time it'll just be for the month of October!

Until the next time ...

  2. This week we added a Hormel mesquite smoked pork tenderloin for 3.49, a box of Raisin bran crunch for .98, and used a coupon for a free box of Kraft mac and cheese. Total this week 4.47. I put the pork into the crockpot with bbq sauce, from that we made a sliced pork sandwich and filled two container for the freezer. We will eat those over baked potatoes. This was a fun exercise.

    1. Cookie, I can smell that apple pie cooking now! You really made your $5 stretch this week, both of those items are more on the expensive side. It just shows what you can do, when you're determined! Love it!

    1. Marley, one of the things I hoped others would do in this challenge was to focus in on what deals were available in their area. I wanted to give us a reason to focus on how much we could purchase with a small amount of money and you did that well. Sometimes, we get so focused on the high prices of food, that we forget to focus on what's in our hands ... the ability to get out there and hunt down those bargains!

      You did good Marley!

    1. Jean, at least you tried and maybe you were inspired by some of the examples shared here. The bottom line is that we can only do what we can do and there is no condemnation in that!
