Pantry Challenge #19 ... 2016 +other thrifty things we did this week!

Remember the rose bush cuttings I cut and my attempt at rooting them … well … I rooted 9 and I am thrilled to report that 6 of them are putting out green buds.  This means they are growing roots!  Yeah!!!

My to-do list from last time:

Plant more cucumbers and tomatoes.  Planted more cucumbers, but didn’t get the tomatoes planted.

Start harvesting spring onions. Done!  They are so good!  I’ve been enjoying them in salads!

Set out cockscone flowers I grew from seeds.  Done!

In Addition:

I planted 2 blueberry bushes that we got on sale.

I planted parsley seeds (from Annabel … thank you again) and nasturtium seeds.

I harvested lavender and sage from my herb garden and dried each in my oven using the oven light.

I planted soapwort plants that I grew from seeds.

I started setting up a bucket watering system for my raised beds.  When we get these completed, watering will be much easier and safer for the plants when our hot and humid summer weather arrives.

I stitched up a ‘princess’ pillow case for my youngest granddaughter.

I repackaged a bulk bag of cheddar cheese into smaller portions and froze them.

I did the same thing with ground beef we found on sale for $1.99/lb.

I made up some turmeric capsules.  I was out and I could surely tell the level of pain I was experiencing from my arthritis was increasing.  I’m thankful to say that the pain level is coming back down.  It will be a while before I let myself run out of turmeric capsules again.  This was a good reminder of just how much they help in my arthritis pain management.

My husband and I have been admiring a cluster of rose bushes along side a major highway and one day this week when we were in the area, we stopped and my husband cut a few cuttings for me to try to root.

(cuttings on the right ... aren't those rose clusters beautiful!)

(rooted below ... they are now residing in the greenhouse while I keep a watchful eye on them for any  signs of growth.)

Here are some things I want to get done in the upcoming week:

Make more turmeric capsules

Make vitamin c capsules

Plant more tomatoes

Now it’s your turn, what have you done to build up your pantry or live frugally this week?
