Weekend Assignment and an Update on Hurricane Matthew ... 10/27/2016

The water has receded from most everyone’s houses and the devastation is heartbreaking for many.

I talked to one woman who knew that water had gotten into her house but didn’t know how badly until she was allowed back in.  She told me with a break in her voice that it had gotten hip deep.  They had lost everything.  As I watched her struggle to put into words what she was feeling,  I made the remark to her that it was one thing to know that there was water in your house and quite another to see the devastation from it and that it was okay for her to have the emotions she was fighting so hard to control.  She agreed!

Yesterday, we learned, in the little town where we took supplies in our caravan last Monday, that there are 200 houses and business that have had their electric meters pulled.  They were told that they would have to have their houses and business rewired before their power could be restored.  (This is in addition to the massive clean-up of their homes and business' from the flood waters.)  This means lots of money and red tape (as in permits and inspections) for them to have to go through.  My heart goes out to them.

Clean-up is coming along, we see lots of trees and debris being cut up and hauled away along the roadsides.  We still have some roads or portions of roads that are closed due to needing major repairs.  One town still doesn’t have drinkable water which means not only homes, but stores and restaurants are being affected.

Life has returned to normal for some but for others a new normal is in the making.  I asked you to please continue to pray for those who are still dealing with all the changes that Hurricane Matthew brought to their lives.

Now, about that weekend assignment …

With the holiday season quickly approaching we need to check on our baking supplies … baking soda, baking powder, flour, sweetner, salt, etc.

It’s no fun to get ready to do some baking only to discover that you’re out of a basic ingredient so, how’s your baking supplies?

Are you ready for the holiday baking season?

That’s your assignment for the weekend, do a quick inventory and add anything you find that you need for your holiday baking to your grocery list.  By doing this now (and purchasing the items, of course), you’ll have the basics on hand when you get ready to do the actual baking!

She looketh well to the ways of her household … Proverbs 31:27
