Pantry Remake: Part 1

People asked me where I store all my pantry items, I just laugh and say 'my whole house is a pantry, we just live in it."  While that is true, I do have a specific area that could be considered an 'official pantry.'  It's a closet that measures 4 feet wide and 4 1/2 feet deep.  The shelves are really deep, making it hard to know what I have in it and to keep it neat and organized.

I asked my husband if he would re-do the shelving, he agreed and since today was a cold and rainy day, we got started.

The first thing I had to do was empty it out and that was quite the job.  It took me about 2 hours to remove everything from it.  I had no idea I had as much stuff in it has I did!  My small house looks like my pantry exploded in it as I have jars, cans and containers sitting anywhere and everywhere I could find a place to put them until this project is completed.

Here is my 'official pantry' emptied out with the top 2 shelves already removed …

I anticipate it will take a couple more days before this project is completed, so stay tuned for more as we progress along!

My pantry is intentional, purposeful, simple, practical, frugal and what works for my family.  It’s the food items and household supplies that keep my household running smoothly ready and available when they are needed.  It’s my contribution to our family’s economy and my work-from-home ‘job.'

  2. Dear Patsi,
I'm looking forward to seeing what you do! I've been pinning lots of pantry pins on my Pinterest page (say that 5 times fast lol) lately. I love seeing what others have done.

  3. I would love to have an official pantry, but alas that is not to be in this house. I am excited to see yours finished.

    1. Out My Window, our house is 925 sq feet total, so we have to get creative with storing our pantry!

  4. I dream of having a walk-in pantry lined with shelves, all my cookbooks in situ, with a lovely comfortable armchair. But since I live in a one bedroom apt. of about 550 square feet it really is a dream. :-) Still, I have a large closet (formerly my linen cupboard) that is about 3' wide which holds a ton so I can't complain.
Can't wait to see how yours turns out.
