30 Day Preserving Challenge: Day 25 ... Peaches

We recently found a good deal on peaches … $.48/lb at a Sprouts grocery store.  The peaches were beautiful so we purchased 20 lbs …

This is what 10 lbs of peaches look like!  We had twice this much!

This is what 20 lbs of peaches look like peeled and cut up!

I packaged them in snack bags and then placed them in quart freezer bags that I labeled with item and date.  (I didn't get a picture of all the baggies, I think there were 29 total.)  By preserving the peaches this way it will be easy to 'grab and use' when I want to make a smoothie, which is why I purchased and preserved these peaches.

Even though this was a great price, I only purchased enough for smoothies as I canned enough peaches last year for two years.  I also didn't need any peach jam or jelly.

What would you do with 20 lbs of peaches?

  1. We preserved peaches as frozen, jam and will get some more to can....after I count what’s left and see if I need them—-looks like a lot of peaches still out there!

  4. I would make jam to sell at our farmers' market, which I have already done this summer. I didn't get nearly that good of a price; I paid .79 a pound on sale. I make peach raspberry, peach honey(my honey) with no pectin, and cooked down peach with no pectin. The pints sell for $6.00 and the quarts for $11. They sell very well. I have all the skins in the freezer to make jelly soon.

    1. Evey, your jam sounds delicious and that is a wise thing to go regarding the peels. You are a wise and prudent woman!
