Sourdough Starter Day 3: Reviving Prudence!

I'm really beginning to think that this journey of rehydrating and bringing back to life my 2 year old dried sourdough starter, Prudence, is going to be a success!

Since yesterday's post, I've fed her 2 more times without discarding any, according to the directions found HERE.

This morning I got up, checked on her and this is what I found ...

She's alive ... according to the instructions this is exactly what she is supposed to look like at this stage of bringing her back to life!

The next step was to discard all but 4 ounces (about 1/2 cup) and feed it again.  This time the instructions said to feed it 4 ounces of lukewarm water and flour.  That's half a cup of water and almost a full cup of flour (I got my scale out and measured both!)

I moved Prudence to a new container and gave her a new bonnet.  This time, if all goes well, she's supposed to really expand as in triple in size.

  1. Patsy, I've really been enjoying watching Prudence come to life. It's so exciting when things come together. I've never tried baking with sourdough.

    1. Cookie, I want to use it for things other than just baking bread this time. I've been collecting recipes to use the 'discard' in.

  2. Prudence looks great!
So glad you were able to revive her. Maybe I will try making sourdough again, but I think I will use those King Arthur instructions this time.
