Scrabble

Making 'Scrabble' is a holiday tradition that my family has been doing, this time of year, for over 40 years.

(going into the oven)

It's an all-day affair and one that creates an aroma in the house that announces, without saying a word, that the holidays have arrived.

All the normal hustle and bustle that comes with this time of year kicks off the holidays, but for us, making Scrabble makes it official!

(cooling on a towel)

Welcome Christmas, we've been waiting for you!

Scrabble

1 box cheese tid bits

1 box cheese nips

1 box wheat chex

1 box rice chex

1 box corn chex

1 box cheerios

1 ½ lb can mixed nuts

1 box/bag stick pretzels

Mix all together in very large container

Mix and Melt:

3 sticks butter

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

Add:

1 tablespoon garlic powder

1 tablespoon onion powder

Pour over dry ingredients and mix well

Spread mixture in flat pans in a 200 degree oven for 2 hours stirring every 20 - 30 minutes.

Spread out on towels and let cool completely. Place in airtight containers or ziplock bags for storage.

Enjoy!

  1. I have never tried this but think I will. The adult sons would love this treat.

  2. Sounds delicious! My Mom always made Chex mix when I was a kid and I remember that toasty smell wafting from thee oven. Of course we always burned our tongues on the first taste even though she warned us. Merry Christmas!

    1. Lana, there's nothing like that smell as it toasts, is it! We've been known to get a burned tongue or two from the first samplings as well ... after smelling the aromas for hours it's hard to resist just one taste fresh from the oven! Merry Christmas to you as well!

    1. Practical Parsimony, it does make a lot, but then it's a popular gift for our friends and family!
