I continue to potter around in the kitchen area fine tuning the furniture 'rearranging' I did last week. The 70 plus degree days we were having have turned into days with the highs in the mid to lower 50's and today we built the first fire of the season in our wood stove. I was reminded all over again how much warmer wood heat is than HVAC heat. Don't get me wrong, we love our HVAC, but when it gets really cold, you just can't beat wood heat for getting and keeping the house toasty warm!
The only Christmasy thing I did today, other than enjoying the lights from our decorations tonight, was put a package in the mail. The price to mail it was far more than the value of its contents and it shocked me so badly that I determined that we would do things differently next year.
To round out this post, I thought I would share a few pictures in and around our home ... I hope you enjoy ...
Merry Christmas from us to you!

I love white enamel dishpans! Your garden is looking great. I am always amazed how different the weather is over there near the coast. It is just bone chilling cold over here in the upstate and nothing has survived the freezes.
ReplyDeleteLana, most of the time we can do some level of gardening year around, it's crazy the difference, isn't it!
DeleteQuestion re: enamel dishpan? Do you find that it keeps the onions from turning, any more than any other storage means? I've found myself purchasing onions one or two at a time, rather than by the bag, because they go bad before I can use them all up. Would love to grow my own, but not possible on my deck.
ReplyDeleteLori, I don't know that it is any better than anything else, it's just what I have that meets the need.
DeleteLori, I have found that white onion keep way better than any other and we almost never have any go bad.
DeleteYour collards look just lovely. I tried rutabaga greens after a produce farmer in town assured me they were as good as....NO they are NOT. I like the sturdiness of a collard leaf and I will buy collards in the future, lol.
ReplyDeleteI've found if a Christmas or birthday gift is bought, it's so much cheaper to order online and have them ship direct. Of course, this doesn't work half so well with handmade items. But it does remind me of Annabelle's plan to mail things that can fit in a regular envelope. I wonder if UPS or Fed Ex would ship cheaper? That's a question to myself. Fed Ex is set up in our local Dollar General.
Terri, I will definitely be checking out pricing from UPS and Fed EX as this was a handmade gift. I still can't believe how much it cost!
DeleteThe USPS is still the cheaper option but I agree that postage is unaffordable now. Mom's very light gift cost 10.80 to mail. We were shocked. We try to ship most everything directly from Amazon.
DeleteLana, the package we mailed was very light as well and the postage was almost $11. We do the same with shipping from Amazon, but those handmade items have to go at our cost and this year, it is just too much! This makes me sad as it takes some gift giving options off the table.
