A Rainy Day!

We have been dry so long that when I learned that it was supposed to rain most all day today, I was thrilled!

So, what does one do on a rainy, cool day ... yes, it was cool as well with the high reaching the lower sixties?

Here's what I did ...

I did my Bible study and prayer time ...

I planned our evening meal ...  (fried chicken, rice and gravy ... per my husband's request)

I canned chicken broth ... (I added rosemary, chives, onions, garlic and sage to the broth for the last hour of cooking and the smell is just 'delicious!'  I'll use some of what was left to cook the rice in for our evening meal and in making the gravy.)

I worked on sandwiching together the log cabin quilt I've been sewing ...  (This is my least favorite thing about quilting because I just don't have enough space to lay one out without maneuvering the quilt around quite a bit.)

I enjoyed a delicious kefir smoothie for a snack ... yum!  So glad I decided to start making kefir milk again.

I took a break and pulled together this post and now it's time to get my walk in for the day.

I hope you've had a good day, whatever the weather is in your area!

One more thing, for the ladies who are following along in our Esther Bible study, I posted Lesson 3 HERE.

Until next time,

  1. I heard the rain at about 12:30 AM here and I was so thankful. We had about eight hours of soaking rain and we needed it so badly. I read the Thursday study and thought about that all day before commenting. I prayed for a friend who is traveling alone today and was nervous about it. I vacuum sealed 6 quarts of walnuts. Hubby picked green beans and there was enough for our supper plus two pints so we got them in the canner. While I was prepping green beans I made our supper salads. Then I poured a little buttermilk into the bag with the thawed chicken thighs to marinate for supper. We had oven fried chicken and I added the green beans to roast halfway through. I mixed an egg into a container of leftover mashed potatoes and made some potato patties which were delicious with our chicken. Now I am going to do some scripture writing which I am way behind on because of my hands being in a lot of pain this week. Have a good evening!

    1. Lana, I have some leftover mashed potatoes in the fridge right now that I'm going to turn into potato patties!

I'm sorry your hands have been in pain; I hope they are better. I shelled peas last week and mine hurt for a couple of days afterward. We're rethinking planting peas again next year, both of us have arthritic hands so it may be time to hang up the pea planting/harvesting/shelling.

I'm going to check on those walnuts the next time we are in Sam's Club.

I enjoyed your comment on today's lesson in Thursday Ladies Bible Class. I had never thought about it, but you were so right! A woman scorned ...!

    2. I'm sorry you two have the hand pain, too. My Hubby has had hand pain for twenty plus years from a career of tying on a computer keyboard all day. I guess we are just getting old!

    3. Lana, we kid around about the "AGE' thing ... we just feel so blessed to still be here that we just take it in stride, make necessary adjustments and go on with life.

  2. Something I forgot to mention that others may be interested in. I saw a tip online today that America's Test Kitchen has found that storing potatoes out of the bag in a basket with an apple on top made the potatoes last eight weeks without getting soft or sprouting. So, I dumped out my potatoes and added an apple.

    1. Lana, that's a good tip, thanks for sharing! I don't currently have any potatoes on hand, but I will remember it when I do.

  3. Lana, put the apple beneath the potatoes, and cover the basket with a black cloth. If potatoes are in the sun
they turn green and are toxic. Also, onions should not be stored with potatoes. Chris, S.Australia
