It's Been A 'Kitchen' Kind of Day!

Pretty much all the work I did today was done in the kitchen ....

(I listened to podcasts and watched/listened to YouTube channels as I worked.)

I started the morning off by cooking sausage patties ahead for our breakfast for the week.  I cooked some bacon ahead too as hubby likes a little variety.  He gets 'food fatigue' really easy.

While the sausage was cooking, I cut overripe bananas in half and froze them.  I'll use them in my kefir smoothies.

Here's the recipe I used today for my 'kefir' smoothie:

In a blender, etc mix ...

1 cup kefir milk
1 tablespoon protein mix
3 pitted cherries (frozen and from my freezer)
1/2 of a frozen banana

Whiz it and enjoy!

I had onions that needed to be used so I chopped up some for the freezer and then sliced up enough to start a couple jars of fermented onions.

I have a few more onions to preserve, but I got a start on them today!

I started canning the chicken we purchased over the weekend as well.  The canner in the picture is processing as I type.  I'm listening to the constant 'jiggle' as I sit and rest!  I'm a bit tired!

Until next time,

  1. You have had a productive day! Getting ahead for breakfast is great when you wake up starving!

We were able to get out to Sam's and do some restocking. Monday is definitely the day to go here as it was only half as busy as any other day. I was happy to get three pounds of walnuts for 7.98. Those will be vacuum sealed tomorrow.

    1. Lana, that is an excellent price for walnuts! I wonder if it's a local to that store only sale?

    2. They seemed to just be the regular price. I think you could check your store on the app or online.

  2. I went into my local grocery today to get onions, spaghetti sauce, parmesan cheese and lettuce. I came out with more. I found a 99c a pound Boston Butt that weighed just under 4#, and 6.5 #s for $3/pound. I had just noted this week I was really low on Ground beef once again. I did get the other items required, as well as lactose free milk, creamer, half and half and bread. I'm not at all unhappy with our little local grocery. They have some decent sales and certainly are not higher than the premium grocery 30 miles away.

Before leaving home today, I chopped and froze about 50 cloves of garlic and have a pan full of bread cubes from ends of loaves to dry out plus three more smaller loaf portions to do something with. I'm thinking bread crumbs. I use my box grater to make those.
