Pantry Building Pep Talk!

Or I could have titled it ... Let's Be Honest!


One of the statements I hear most often when talking with others about keeping a well-stocked pantry is, “I don’t have the money to buy groceries and stock a pantry too.”   While I certainly agree that this is true for some, for most it is not.

Let’s see if we can find some funds in the budget for those in the ‘it is not’ category …

What could you add to your pantry by using the money, or even a portion of it, that you use to eat out with each month?  This includes meals, lunches, money you spend in the vending machine at work, breakfast you pick up on the way to work, lattes, etc.

Add up the amount … go ahead … I’ll wait …

Done?

How much did you get?  This amount is above and beyond what you spend at the grocery store for groceries so … we just found you some money to help stock your pantry!

  4. Looking forward to it! Yours is one of my favorite blogs (& I am sorry the fb group is closed as that was the only one I actively participated in!). Today I cooked down pears from our pear trees and pureed them in the food processor ~ decided to put the slurry in the crockpot with cinnamon and make pear butter. I added 2 tablespoons of cinnamon and wanted to add some brown sugar but I was out. In the pantry I did have 2 pint jars of un=jelled apple jelly, so I added them for the sweetness. Now I will have pear/apple butter. Yum! Use what ya have! d

    1. Donna, our pears are not quite ready yet, but that is a very good way to use them. We also like pears canned. That's a good use for the un-jelled jelly, I think we all have jelly that doesn't jell from time to time. Yes ma'am, use what you have!!!

  6. It's real easy for me to add up the extra since it's $0. I make my hubs breakfast, lunch and coffee before I go to bed at night. I also make Gatorade for him to take to work, so no vending machine trips unless he gets a sweets craving. Even when we go on a day trip I pack a cooler with sandwich makings and fruits and veggies to snack on.
