Greenhouse Repair and Expansion: Part 5

Whew!!!  We have really been working hard the past few days when opportunity arose on our greenhouse project.  We're not finished but we have made some progress!

Here's where we were in the last post, we had just started the expansion …

In the picture above we laid out where we wanted the 6 x 6 posts that were 16 feet long ...

We had to level them with the existing greenhouse ...

Then it was time to measure ...

and mark every 12 inches.  Can you see the marks on the left top side of the 6 x 6?

The reason we put those marks on the 6 x 6 every 12 inches was so that we would know where to put  two screws side by side ...

Can you see all the screws on this 6 x 6?

Here's why we needed them … to attach the 3/4 inch PVC pipe we were using to make the arches ...

Here's the first arch installed along with one purlin on each side and center top.  The purlins are 3/4 inch PVC pipe that are 20 feet long as are the arches.

I think that's enough for this post, it's kind of picture heavy as it is.

I hope you're enjoying this journey with us, there's more to come!

  2. Patsy thank you and you have done so much work and it all takes time to build things.

I had not thought of screws to attach the Pvc pipe to the bottom with screws side by side so that makes sense and would probably hold them quite firmly.

Have a great week and you are making great progess with the greenhouse expansion :) .

    1. Lorna, the screws hold the arches quite securely, it's the way we constructed the old part to our greenhouse and it has held well for several years and through 3 hurricanes!
