30 Day Preserving Challenge: Day 2, Strawberry Powder

I'm finishing off the strawberries I told you about in Day 1, but I'm not canning them or making jam or anything like that.  How did I preserve the remaining 2 quarts?  First, I threw them into the food processor and turned them into somewhat of a liquid mush.

Next, I placed dehydrator sheets on the dehydrator trays and spread the liquid mush out on each.  I set the dehydrator for 135 degrees and let it run approximately 6 - 7 hours.  When the mush was completely dry I pulled it off the sheets, broke/tore it up and then ground it up into a powder using a coffee/herb grinder similar to this one.

It made about 1 1/4 cups of powder!  This will be added to smoothies and yogurt, I'm pretty happy at all we got out of our free strawberries!

  1. That should be a tasty addition to yoghurt etc. I tried dehydrating them as nibbles last year, but they were all SEEDS so I won't do that again!
