30 Day Preserving Challenge: Day 6, Blueberries

Here we are at day 6 in this challenge and this time I'm preserving something that I did not grow.  It's something that I purchased at a grocery store on sale and brought home and preserved.  There are many ways to obtain food to preserve that do not involve gardening and this is one …

(nice, plump blueberries)

We have blueberry bushes but only two of them are big enough to produce.  This means I have to purchase enough, when I find them on sale, to preserve if I'm going to have blueberries throughout the year at a price I can afford.

That's what I did this week.  I purchased blueberries, brought them home, washed them up and divided them into 1/3 cup increments.  Into the freezer part of my pantry they went where they will wait to be used in smoothies.

We're at the beginning of blueberry season in our area so I'll be looking for another good sale to purchase more.  I'd like to make a few jars of blueberry pie filling and add a few more smoothie size bags to my freezer.

My pantry is intentional, purposeful, simple, practical, frugal and what works for my family.  It’s the food items and household supplies that keep my household running smoothly ready and available when they are needed.  It’s my contribution to our family’s economy and my work-from-home ‘job.'
