This Week's To-Do List: 7/13/22

Our phone line and internet service has been repaired ... temporarily!  They found another place that the line had been cut and ran a temporary line on top of the ground until the crew that buries lines can come to dig and bury it.  It's quite a length of line and the thing that makes me a little hesitant is that we live in an area where farming is strong with tractors and big equipment going up and down the road we live on quite often.  How long the temporary line will remain intact is anyone's guess.  We received word today that it could be up to 10 days before they came out to bury the line.  I can almost guarantee that the line won't last that long without getting tangled or chopped up by farm equipment ... but for this moment we have a phone line and internet service again!!!

So .... let's check in on our last 'to-do' list, how did we do?  This is what it looked like ...

(Picture:  apple cobbler fresh from the oven using my home-canned apple pie filling. It was delicious!)

Bible Study:  complete lesson 2 of the ‘Knowing Our Enemy’ Bible study I’m writing.  In lesson one we explored where Satan came from and in lesson two, we’re looking at the strategies he used against Eve.  Done!  In fact, I'm putting the finishing touches on lessons 3 - 6. (There are 6 lessons in this series. In lesson 3 we look at the strategies Satan used to tempt Jesus; in lesson 4 we look at accounts of Satan tempting other people; I titled lesson 5 ... Do We Even Stand A Chance? and in lesson 6 we talk about the take-aways from what we've studied and look at the solution.  When I'm finished with it I'll be offering it free of charge to those who'd like to receive it.  Be looking for info on how to get it in a future post.)

Exercise complete 60,000 steps this week   Done!  Walking is about all I can safely do with my injured hand and wrist right now, so walking is what I'm doing!

Finish preserving the rest of our cabbage  Can you believe that I'm still working on this!

Can tomatoes from our garden  Done!  See all those canned tomatoes in the picture!!!

Work on preserving potatoes  Done!  I diced and dehydrated 2 quart jars full.

Work on preserving garlic  Done!

Start a jar of cider fire  Didn't get done!

Work on preserving onions I chopped and froze some, I still have more to do though!

Harvest herbs  Nope, didn't get done!

Finish touching up my mom’s table  Done!

Christmas in July Challenge:  complete 4 Santa Hat blocks  Done!  In fact, I finished the whole quilt top (size:  46 1/2 x 54 1/2 ... lap quilt size)

What does my 'to-do' list look like for the next week:

Bible:  continue to work on finishing up the remaining lessons in my Knowing the Enemy Bible study.  Also continue to work on memorizing Isaiah 26:3-4 ... You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you.  Trust in the Lord forever for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.    Isn't that just so comforting!

Exercise: Complete 60,000 steps

Christmas in July:  work on mini-Christmas cross stitch pillow and get Santa hat quilt top ready to quilt by hand

That's all the goals I'm going to put on my to-do list for this next week as we have a super busy schedule.

A Working Pantry

She looketh well to the ways of her household … Proverbs 31:27

A Working Pantry is a way of life, a lifestyle if you will!

My pantry is intentional, purposeful, simple, practical, frugal and what works for my family.  It’s the food items and household supplies that keep my household running smoothly ready and available when they are needed.  It’s my contribution to our family’s economy and my work-from-home ‘job.'

  1. It is so good to see you back! Many, many years ago the phone company put a temporary line down our driveway at the lake house and it is still there. We don't have a land line over there anymore but that thing has been driven on for at least 8 years and is still intact! So I hope yours is made of the same tough stuff!

I am sorry to hear that you are still having trouble with your hand and wrist.

My one goal this week is rest and getting through the treatment I had for my genetic disease on Monday. Sometimes healing just means pain that I have to get through. I sorted beans for the canner last night when I had a period of less pain but am not able to get them in the jars this morning but my husband knows how to do it from here so he will load the canner in a bit and then I think we will put it away for awhile. We have seven empty and clean storage buckets that we need to get flour into this week but again Hubby will do that. I put rice into one last night since they were small bags that I could handle. I am thankful for those $1 Krispy Kreme buckets!

    1. Lana, I'm sorry that you're having to deal with so much pain but love the example you set of working with and around it.

Good news on the temporary phone line, they came out today and buried it. I am so thankful!

I wish I could get my hands on some krispy kreme buckets! If I remember correctly, they aren't a bit smaller and easier to handle.

    2. Oh yay on getting the cable buried! The Krispy Kreme buckets are about three gallons. We really like the size. They also make great pots for vegetables. We did get six more pints of dry beans through the canner.

  2. Great job on getting things done! I have a question about dehydrating your potatoes - how do you do it without them turning brown? I don't have a dehydrator, but I do have an air fryer oven with a dehydrator setting, and I would love to dehydrate potatoes I buy and don't use before they go bad. Seems like they turn color within a very short time once cut. Or does it even matter - is the taste affected? Thank you (and Missy & Gus!) for sharing your wisdom!

    1. Kathy, after I dice my potatoes, I blanch them for about 3 minutes then put them in the dehydrator. I'll try to get a post up on how I do mine asap.
