Blogmas 2022: 12/22/22

I baked the last of our food gifts today and hubby got it delivered.

This sour cream pound cake went to an older gentleman in the community that we love dearly.

This finishes up the food gifts we are giving this year and now we'll turn our focus to our own holiday foods and celebration.  Everything is in order, and we are ready for a time of 'slowing down' and rest over the next few days.

After I finished making the cake, I turned the beef bones from our beef ribs meal yesterday into 7 quarts of home-canned beef broth.  These jars are fresh from the pressure canner and their lids pinging and popping are making me smile!  That's such a beautiful sound to the home-canner's ears!

I've used quite a bit of plain flour this week and needed to replenish the gallon jar/canister I use from.  I pulled a 1-gallon zip-lock bag of plain flour from storage and refilled the jar.  I then proceeded to wash and sanitize the zip-lock bag and hung it up to dry.

Everyone in the path of this monster storm moving across the U.S., please be safe and stay warm.  Our area will also be affected, not as bad as some of the northern states, but nonetheless, affected.

Until tomorrow!

Merry Christmas from us to you!

A Working Pantry is a way of life, a lifestyle if you will!

My pantry is intentional, purposeful, simple, practical, frugal and what works for my family.  It’s the food items and household supplies that keep my household running smoothly ready and available when they are needed.  It’s my contribution to our family’s economy and my work-from-home ‘job.'

  1. The weather has been downgraded here but still very serious cold and wind concern. We will be staying in as much as possible!

Love our home canned food! Tonight it was a jar of chili. Those pings are beautiful music! Today we baked sugar cookies and made my late MIL fudge recipe.

    1. Lana, your comment about chili made me think that chili would be an excellent meal during this cold weather. I went to my pantry and pulled out a couple of jars and we plan to have it for our main meal of the day today!

    2. I just saw your cake on the computer screen and it looks so delicious. Enjoy your chili! Tonight we will have a jar of our home canned stew. Hubby calls it jar stew. It is our first time canning it and we both think it is the best thing we have ever canned.

    3. Lana, thank you! We have stew canned and on our pantry shelves too! This is the kind of weather where those canned soups, stews and chili are so convenient.

  2. Such a blessing to have a full pantry and to be able to gift others. I commented to my daughter last Sunday, during our day of baking, that aside from perishables (lettuce and other produce), I could likely stay home for the next 3 months or more. While cleaning out and organizing my refrigerator, I found a bunch of celery that was getting a little old and a green bell pepper that was starting to turn to yellow. Rather than throw them out, I chopped them and put them in the dehydrator. I've been lamenting the increased of garden vegetable cream cheese for my morning bagel. Now I'll be able to make my own, whether or not I have fresh produce or now. Will dehydrate left-over green onions and red onion after the holidays, as well. Merry Christmas, if I don't get back here before then.

    1. Lori, way to think smart with the celery and bell pepper! A well-stocked pantry is valuable in so many ways, isn't it?
