Mornings with Me: 9/18/24

My morning started off with my usual routine of getting up, getting dressed and getting moving.  The older I get the longer this takes me!

After that it was off to the kitchen to take over frying bacon for hubby's breakfast which he had already started.  We often tag team cooking projects if time is of the essence as it was this morning.  I pulled an apron off the hook and set to work.

I peeled and sliced tomatoes while the bacon was cooking as hubby wanted a bacon and tomato sandwich for breakfast and one to take for his lunch.  At his request I cooked several slices of bacon for him to have his favorite sandwich again later in the week.

The tomatoes I prepared for him were of an heirloom variety, so I started the process of saving the seeds.

I made a quick dash to the chicken coop and literally 'pocketed' the eggs in my apron pocket!

It was back to the house and after washing and refrigerating the eggs, it was time to get started on my big project of the morning ...

Making peach pie filling to can ...  (Yes, it tastes as good as it looks!)

Fresh from the water bath canner!

While working with the peaches, I listened to:

(I'm in the book of Exodus in their listen to the Bible in a year plan.)

I'm so thankful for the blessing of being able to get spiritual nourishment while working with my hands on 'time is of the essence' projects.

That was my morning, how was yours?

until next time,

  1. That peach pie filling looks so good!

We team cooked breakfast as well. Hubby cooked a pound of bacon so we could have some for later and I made pancakes. Hubby handed me a new box of our favorite Krusteaz mix from the pantry and I was surprised to see it had expired last month. I had planned to make some extra for the freezer but when I saw that date I got a bigger bowl and mixed up the entire box. Meanwhile I told Hubby to text nextdoor and ask if f they wanted pancakes for breakfast. No reply until noon but I was so glad they had slept that late . We ended up with four extra meals for the freezer. I am very happy about that. But these two should not have put that whole plate of bacon on the table! Not as much left as week had hoped.

Our bread machine has not been making great bread anymore . It is over ten years old. I had seen one on Facebook Marketplace that I wanted but the seller is 40 miles from here. So I messaged her and asked if she works closer to us and she will actually be in our town one day next week so we will meet and get it then. I'm so glad I asked!.

    1. Lana, we have the same issue with bacon!!!

I'm glad you found a replacement for your bread machine! That was some smart thinking to inquire about a closer meeting place!

  2. We team cook breakfast too. I'm an early riser and hubby likes to sleep in. While he was still sleeping I put some frozen turkey legs that I got while bargain huntting into the Instant pot with more water than needed and seasoning. This give me more bang for the buck as it produced the cooked meat and a quart and a half of delicious broth. The meat was deboned and divided into 3 more meals , the broth jared and all got frozen. II baked 4 dozen 3 ingredient peanut butter cookies for the freezer. When hubby got up we enjoyed our coffee and tea and made plans for the rest of the day. We do intermittant fasting so we brunch very late morning. The peach pie filling looks yummy. We've had a bumper crop of sweet peppers this year and I will be saving some seeds from them. Cookie

    1. Cookie, we're saving seeds from everything we can this year because of the rising costs of seeds and for the purposes of trying to get ahead for next year.

Hmmm, those turkey legs and broth would make some delicious soup! You did great by adding to your pantry with them.

I'm still doing intermittent fasting too with an eating window of 6 - 8 hours every day. It works really well for me.

Our sweet peppers didn't do anything this year, so I'm keeping my eye out for a sale. If it's a good enough one, I'll get enough to preserve and add to our pantry. If not, we'll do without until next year's growing season and try again.

  3. David, my husband, made breakfast this morning. After I had eaten I sat and did Wordle and a couple of other word puzzles. I find it is a good way to get my brain in gear for the day. I made the beds, watered some plants and then worked with David to sort through some boxes of things he had bought, separating things we could use from things he has decided to sell on. It took until lunch time, so we took a break and then tidied the things away afterwards.
