From My Home to Yours

~ We have to figure out what we can do to help ourselves and get busy doing it! ~
Here's what that looked like in my home this week ...
Our pear tree is loaded with baby pears and I'm making a list of ways to use and preserve them!
A keyway to get the most out of one's harvest is to be prepared for what you're going to do with it and how you're going to preserve it.
checklist:
what am I going to do with it ...
how do I plan to preserve it ...
do I have everything I need for preservation on hand and ready to use ...
do I have pantry space sorted out and ready ...
Throughout the coming year ... that's a sobering thought isn't it if you stop and think about it. What can I do to help my family throughout the coming year?
I can do my best to ensure that ...
(1) they have nutritious food available ... (well-stocked pantry)
(2) they have adequate clothing at the best price ... (thrifting, recycling, upcycling, sale shopping, etc)
(3) that their reasonable expenses can be met ... (savings and frugal living)
All three of these can be done by everyone to some degree and looking ahead to the coming year, I feel the need to learn and develop skills that will help me grow in all three areas.
What about you, do you feel the need to step up to the plate a little closer?
This week's post is a bit shorter and as you've obviously noted, late. The special event I've been working on over the past several weeks occurred on Saturday. It was a huge success, and we along with the church we attend were able to plant seeds for our Lord into the lives of 45 children. This is the 3rd year we've been a part of this great effort, and it keeps growing every year. (Year 1: 27 kids; Year 2: 32 kids; Year 3: 45 kids). We give God the glory and thank Him for the opportunity to influence these children for Him.
Now that this event is behind us for another year, it's time to turn my attention to more gardening, prepping my spring and summer wardrobe, prepping for preserving season and so much more!
I'm going to focus on figuring out what I/we can do in our home to help ourselves get through the coming year with as much ease and comfort as possible and then work out a plan to get busy doing it! How about you?
I hope you've found something in my ramblings this week that will help and or encourage you in the upcoming week.
Until the next time ...

ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteThankful for your outreach to ally those kids. Those are seeds planted in so many lives. Who knows how far reaching it will be.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great thought to plan ahead for the harvest. In our case it is mostly how we will preserve good deals. With so much uncertainty it is prudent to be ready.
I am all signed up for Social Security, Medicare and a visit to my Hubby's favorite doctor so I have a primary care doc on record. My doc is not a provider..
We got $232 worth of groceries at Publix for $83 yesterday. This was an ad like we used to have Pre COVID. So many BOGO deals on staple foods that I have not seen in maybe years. I honestly cannot remember when some of the foods were last on sale for a great price. This total included 15 pounds of meat and six pounds of butter along with so much more. Even our beloved White Lily flour was BOGO. I hope this is a new trend!
Our house is still filled with huge vases of azaleas. I am really enjoying them.
My pear tree started blossoming just yesterday, along with my apple trees. I haven't really considered planning ahead regarding using the fruit. You have given me food for thought!
ReplyDeleteI need to push myself to learn canning. I bought a pressure canner.
ReplyDeleteWe had a pear tree, but it was too close to the house and very mess. Our Golden Retriever learned to pull of the fruit and would eat it. Sometimes it gave her awful runs. I got so many pears, I would bring a basket to work once a week. Once I start canning, I am sure I will regret cutting it down!
Food for thought...Literally! I often save peaches and strawberries, peppers and other harvests but in the end, I fail to plan how I shall use them and there they sit eating up freezer space. I've decided that the frozen berries and peaches will make lovely sugar-free sorbets to eat as a treat. Now to plan to use the vegetables!
ReplyDeleteSounds wonderful!
